Halp me set up my router

I had to reset my router because I think a pesky neighbour was stealing my internet, but I forgot how to set it up ~_~

I can connect to the router's address fine, but I forgot how to make the computer accept the router for the net.

Fixed that but I have another Q.

The reason I reset it, is because out of nowhere, all my wifi apps and laptops in my house just flatlined, while all the wired apps work. My router is near my main office so nobody touched it, I was near it the whole time when the flatline happened.

Router is WRT54G Linksys Wireless-G, is this a normal way for wireless routers to die out ?

    ayup.

If a component has gone bad (say the antenna), the actual router would still work. I've had a bad history with Linksys products, but consult documentation.

    Depends..

If it is a WRT54G it isn't unlikely it physically broke(50% chance) but I would reset it again and try connection without WEP/WPA or any security at first and possibly try connecting from a different laptop.

If it was a WRT54GL you'd have a solid product and i'd assume you did something wrong.

If it was a WRT54GS I would tell you to throw it in the trash :/

Yep this is the one, tried it on both lappies, the whole house pretty much flat lined at the same time and haven't got it to get back up since. Even after factory reset

I'm gonna guess it's just gone poof. Going with netgear this time, this router has been hassle since day 1.

Just research a little first.. If you want a netgear find someone in your linkshell or that you know on FFXI that uses a netgear and NEVER gets disconnected and zones in fast. Find out what model they have and get that exact one otherwise you are just as likely to get a netgear model just as bad..

It is a numbers game and you won't know until it gets put to the test. FFXI traffic is a shitload harder to route than typical web browsing traffic.

Assuming you have added an encrption key onto your router this time to prevent your neighbours stealking your tin'ternet, you'd be best manually disconnecting the wireless devices and reconnecting on those if you havn't done already.

-Right click on your wireless icon (2 flashing computers on your taakbar next to clock)
    -Show available wireless connections
-If it's currently connected to one, highlight it and select 'Disconnect'. Close window
-Bring up available wireless connections again and your connection should be shown as secured network. Click connect and enter your encryption hey when requested.

Probably won't work, but in my vast experience with wireless, it can sometimes be that simple.

    Goodluck.

Is there a reason you're using two routers on your LAN? You might want to consider buying a wireless access point instead of another wireless router if it saves you money, since you won't be using the router functionality.
