    Best Settings for Claim?

    Sorry if this has been posted at some point. I took a search but didn't find much.

    I run the game on a laptop, its alright for most things but in the Aery, with Darters and the mass grouping of players, Fafnir pops late on my screen.

    I'll see the log, that people are casting and attempting to claim but he doesn't show up for a second or two, even if hes right in front of me.

    Last night I tried turning the Frame Rate Animation settings down to minimum and setting my background resolution to 512x512. I also changed all the texture settings to Compressed.

    Before doing this, I wouldn't see people on the far end of the room, I'd have to run over there and they would start popping up, after doing it, I could see everyone. I have the display character models at max in both situations.

    Anyhow, last night things were even worse. Fafnir popped just to my left, but I ran around at least 5+ seconds before he even showed up. Some other LS was already fighting by that point >_>

    So, forgetting it being a good or bad computer. Fast or not fast. What are the optimal settings for seeing a mob like fafnir "pop" or "draw" fastest on your screen?

    Feel free to ask any questions if I didn't provide details that would assist in an answer. Any suggestions?

    As a little side comment to this, when I used to play on PS2, fafnir would pop quick and always pop unclaimed aka I never saw the dreaded "It popped purple". Makes me think I should just break out the ps2 for claiming.

    You can either:

    1. Turn all models off by replacing their dats

    2. I use the new drawdistance plugin and .drawdistance setmap 0 and .drawdistance setmob 0. It reduces the lag a little bit for me.
    Another thing that I've heard of, is replacing the Morbol dat with the Fafnir dat and before you run into the pit, go look at the Morbol so the Fafnir model is already in memory.

    don't know if PS2 have higher limit of model displayed or simply display NPC 1st/only over players.

    I have the same problem =/ and I turn model displayed down... I can't see a mob that's 4 steps away from me. but if I turn it up .. I lag ; ;

    need a "display PT/alliance member only" opinion ; ;

    Do you guys do it with graphics settings at a minimum? And would fafnir taking longer to pop than when my settings were higher be due to the fact I lowered the frame rate animation? or something else?

    move to japan and get a core 2 duo system with a killer video card. reduce all your settings to its lowest settings and kill all the darters if you wanna claim fafnir. otherwise get a bot.

    No, it's not that bad. Botting scumbags just like to tell themselves it is to justify their actions.

    well.. I know it's not a 1st person shooting game or anything.. but you usually get higher FPS on low resolution which might help speed up the loading.

    but yea.. it's been ages since I see anything popped yellow.
    saw aspid popped yellow. clicked on it.. cast stun... and ORZ ! owned by claim delay patch. stopped casting stun for no reason w/o any system message. b4 I even try again.. claimed. ; ;

    When I saw "best settings for claim", I was thinking "215 millisecond delay, ..." but then I figured out what he was really talking about.

    Not that I know of such things.

    lol... Okay let me change to a clear statement/question.

    What are the best settings, to set ones computer at to provide the best possible chance at a legit claim?

    Thats what I should have said in the first place I guess.

    heh, I thought the exact same thing, and I was saying to myself "oh shit that guy better start running."

    I'm in the same boat sort of though in terms of claiming. I don't even bother with it much anymore because when faf spawns, I don't see him till a good 2-3 minutes later (NOT an exageration.... )

    I'm by no means an expert claimer in DA, but I've gotten a few Fafhoggs before other linkshells on Titan began using questionable methods.

    Step 1 is somehow getting rid of the darters. You need to either kill them or remove the dat. Your chances are very slim of claiming if other linkshells cannot target darters or bot and you are trying to claim through them.

    Step 2 is lowering your settings. This includes lowering your game resolution and compression. I've heard people say this is a placebo and doesn't really affect seeing the model draw, but the times I have claimed Fafhogg was when I took the time to change the registry settings. I usually turn clipping plane all the way to 0 and character models displayed at max.

    Step 3 is your claim method. I personally feel that spamming F8 and then hitting a macro for a spell is better than spamming enter in the spell menu. I'm not sure if spamming from the menu lags the game by overloading you send buffer or something, but mobs always draw really late when I'm spamming from menu as opposed to F8.

    Another thing you might want to look into is the JP windower. Someone on Titan told me it cuts down on lag since there is an option to remove textures on models, but I never verified it personally.

    Also, turning off /names seems to cut down lag as well.

    That's kind of an interesting suggestion. Although, I doubt it would work. Even though there's identical data in the .dat you've just replaced, FFXI doesn't know that internally. I suspect it will just load the duplicate data from your hard drive just the same as if you hadn't swapped .dats in the first place. If there were a way to make the fafnir model pre-cached in your system memory, that would really help though.

    Shadows certainly changes things. I was at 19 FPS and then turned on shadows to check and it droped to 9 FPS.

    Yeah... I know its not great, its just a laptop >_>

    I find 1700 delay on flash to be bes--oh, I mean, I have a killer system now, I went from 10 FPS in aery @256x256 and 1280x1024 to 20+ FPS @3360x2100 and 1680x1050, and doesn't look like SNES. The guy saying to get a core 2 duo and a killer video card wasn't kidding
