Donating/selling your plasma (blood)

Does it hurt? I'm thinking about doing it for a little spending cash for the summer. Of course going to get a job and what not. Are there any long term side effects? Anyone try it a few times? Just need as much information as possible before I do this. I know they pay up to 170 dollars or so a month. Not too shabby, and it's only a couple hours a week.

Donating blood plasma is probably the safest way to go for quick money. A student can rake in about $30 per donation with only a mildly uncomfortable procedure. Donating once a week is enough to let your body replace the plasma you may have lost after a donation. There are minimal side effects following the donation such as dizziness and nausea and no long-term effects.

Just about anywhere in the US will be safe for blood donations. You'll have to get your blood tested and everything before you can donate to make sure you don't have AIDS, Hepatitis, etc. but they'll do that at the donation clinic anyways. Other than having a needle in your arm for a few minutes it's pretty painless, but just make sure you can get a friend to drive you home or take public transit/taxi as driving or riding a bike would be a bad idea for a while.

At least in Canada you have to wait about 6 weeks between blood donations, but you don't get paid for it; which sucks.

Oh and re: sperm donations. The screening process for that is ridiculous. If you don't exercise like 5 days a week, or have ever smoked, and didn't graduate from an Ivy League collage then forget about it; they won't accept you as a donor.

Only long term effects I see are scarring of your veins because the needle is bigger than the one used to donate blood.

I'm not even sure if scarred veins looks any different or if it affects your health at all.

Yah same. I used to get 1\2 a day off donating blood, add on the fact that you get buzzed quicker because of it and it's win\win

There are no negative long term effects form donating blood past the slight scarring that is possible.

The procedure is quite painless past the insertion of the needle.

Blood shortages exist all over the country, go donate. Seriously. What if it was your family member dying in the OR due to blood shortages?

Last time I gave blood I was completely fine through the whole process til the fuckin nurse took the needle out, then I felt like really drained of energy and fainted... fuck donating blood.
