    What's your PC's score for the VanaBenchmark3?

I just built a new computer and I've been tweaking the settings getting FFXI to run as nice looking as possible.

I've gotten it to run 20-30fps in town (full shadows), and at HNM battles it runs at about 15-20fps with full shadows.

I decided to take the VanaBenchmark just to see my score difference from my previous computer and now I get ~4200 with High resolution benchmark.

You can find a good registry tweak guide here: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.htm...16382834&num=3

You can find the benchmark program here: http://dl.square-enix.co.jp/taru/FFXiB3Setup.exe

Test it out and see what you get!

    Scores are as follows:
Cannot run - 999: "Too Weak" PC
Unfortunately, we assume that the specifications of your computer do not meet requirements to run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. If you have this score even though your computer meets the minimum system requirements, please adjust the software resident on your PC. If your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements, please consider upgrading your machine.

1000 to 1499: "Easy Prey" PC
We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. However, your frame rate may drop when in a party with lots of effects or in crowded cities. You should set the game settings (such as resolution and texture) as low as possible. In addition, if these symptoms bother you, you may consider upgrading your computer (such as increasing the amount of memory or upgrading your graphics card, etc).

1500 to 1999: "Decent Challenge" PC
We assume that your computer can easily run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows with the default settings. If the frame rate bothers you when you run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows, you may change the game settings (resolution or texture settings, etc) or adjust the display of weather effects.

2000 to 2499: "Even Match" PC
We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows enjoyably with the default settings. You should be able to play easily with weather effects on.

    2500 to 2999: "Tough" PC
We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows enjoyably with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, we recommend that you increase the resolution of FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. FINAL FANTASY XI might run just as smoothly as in low resolution mode.

3000 to 3999: "Very tough" PC
We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows enjoyably with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, it may be possible to run "FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows" easily even in high resolution mode.

4000 or above: "Incredibly tough" PC
We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows incredibly well with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, it may be possible to run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows easily even in high resolution mode or with bump mapping enabled.

7000 or above: "Impossible to gauge"
We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows excellently with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, we recommend that you try out various configuration settings of FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows.

Whoever designed that scares me terribly.

I think I got 9259 at the very end with it running on high. (What? Nine thousand!?) And it's still choppy in big crowds. Woe.

I think I got Very Tough the last time I tried it out. Not too good, but still much better than my last computer, which couldn't even run the benchmark at all.

I bet none of you even use it, so don't form an opinion on what you don't know anything about.

If you do use it, disregard what I said.

After the horror that was ME I wait a while before picking up new versions of Windows. 3-4 years doesn't bother me because that used to be about when I picked up new PCs anyway, although recently I haven't had to switch quite as often.

That and I haven't really found myself saying "Oh no, I need the exciting user experience that only Windows Vista can offer me!" yet.

I've had the chance to fool around with vista in a work setting doing some tech consulting work and it's pretty nice. It's freaky just how much of OS X's file display features they copied over, but for people who didn't get the whole DOS-style file trees it's a breeze to find stuff and use. Not to mention that it looks pretty too and, to me, is easier to use than OS X.

However, when it comes to games support I can see how people might be a little iffy at this point in time. When I upgrade my home PC sometime this summer I plan to go with Vista Home Premium. Just means I'll have to stick to playing my legit games for a while.
