Running SP2? Got a firewall?
Run virus/malware scan.
I bet that's the problem right there.
Yes >_>Originally Posted by Snowknight26
I've run every trustworthy scan I know of, along with the only 2 suggested in this forum section (yes I did my searches) and nothing fixes these popups. My IE privacy settings get set to the lowest right after I put them to the max, this shit is driving me crazy.Originally Posted by diemos
Are you running IE6 or IE7? You sure that error is connected to IE? How do you replicate the error?
IE 6, I only get the error before/after I get a pop up, the pop ups are the main problem obviously![]()
why are you using IE to begin with?
Firefox or Opera ftw!
Read the first 4 words of my first post. :D I'd uninstall the useless piece of shit IE, but I'm too scared.Originally Posted by Sigi
If you don't use IE, how are you getting popups? What program generates the popups? Is the popup the picture you have in your first post?
Have you tried looking around in your startup for something fishy? >.> also you can't uninstall IE in windows versions 98+. You can only hide the icon
Loudly utter an explicative -> Backup important files -> Format -> Reinstall
A quick google search said "msn hotbar" in explorer caused that problem. You might want to desinstall this first if you have one. Spyware could cause that, but you said you didn't have any.
If not, just install Explorer 7, doubt you will get that error again.
Internet explorer shows up at "IEXPLORER.EXE" doesn't it? I thought "EXPLORER.EXE" was part of windows. I remember screwing around and ending the explorer process and ending up having to reboot my computer, but I can kill IE from the process list without problems.
Virus scan asap, usually a buffer overrun like that indicates a malicious process trying to take control of your computer.
Devek's recommendation is the best at this point... although I would edit it to add "Use a string of expletives for 20 minutes minimum"
That has nothing to do with internet explorer.Originally Posted by Volken
Run spybot from the hd and then run stinger from a floppy disk (you can google spybot and get stinger from mcafee)
Spybot will likely find the problem; stinger's just to play it safe.
Edit: l o fucking l. no sooner did I post about not getting the error and I got it again >_> I installed IE 7, no pop ups so far.
Edit #2:

Can't fix it, it asks to run at start up and it still can't fix it then.
boot to safe mode, log into admin
READY YOUR DELETE GUN!
Smitfraud lol.
This is what you get for
A) Letting a windows machine directly on the Internet
B) Browsing the web from a windows machine.
C) Running programs on a windows machine.
Crap like that usually installs crap that downloads and installs more crap that downloads and installs more crap. Even if you delete it all you won't be able to find the rootkit that put the crap on there in the first place.![]()
Just tried that, still wouldn't let me delete it >_>Originally Posted by Sigi
