    Higher Resolution w/ FFXI

Ok looking around on BG I see all of these nice looking high res screens. I'm a little curious as to how I can get those screens and the fonts that many people use. This is a pretty noob question, but I've been playing on PS2 for 3 years and I just got PC version. So cut me a little slack, please.

    off another forum's topic.

    ===========================================
Frustrated why the game wont let you set background textures past 1024 x 1024?? Look below to set it even higher!! The game looks amazing running background resolutions of 2048 x 2048!!

Step 1:go to your run command and type REGEDIT and click ok.

Step 2: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then click on software.

Step 3: Click PlayOnlineUS and Square Enix folder, then the FinalFantasyXI tab.

Step 4: You should see 2 files 003 and 004. Double click and change the value on 003 to 800, and change 004 to 800. You will notice the values to the right after you click ok will change to the corresponding resolution.

    2048 x 2048 = 800 and 800
    1600 x 1600 = 640 and 640
    1280 x 1280 = 500 and 500

I'm currently running it at: Window Resolution 1440x858 and Background Resolution 2880x1716... with Draw Distance. It looks pretty nice.

1680x1050@3360x2100 is surreal, still 29 FPS in whitegate o.O can mipmapping go above 1 without fucking up movement speed? I've heard people going above 30 FPS with it set higher and thus moving faster

hmm i edited mine to 2880*1800 and it made the game super-huge.. as if i only saw the upper lefthand corner of the game. any clue what that might be?

edit: I have a 1440*900 monitor, which is why the other values

yea.. just saw that. changing 03 and 04 didn't have a big change when i went to 800x800 (2048*2048) and i saw the 1440*900, so i changed those (on 01 and 02). I changed them back and still no big change (at least that i was expecting).

01/02 is your window resolution. (This is what would make your screen hueg)

03/04 are your background resolution. (This is what makes your graphics nice)

For 01/02, make the resolution of the game smaller than your actual desktop reso. For instance, my screen is 1680x1050, but my FFXI window is 1680x900. Now that you've figured out your game reso, for 03/04 double the corresponding value from 01/02. For instance again, my 01 is 1680 and my 03 is 3360. 02 is 900 and 04 is 1800. Purdy. =D

    Got another question.

How do I get the different menu text/style that I see so many people posting screens of?

    A couple things:

Is there a difference between the resolution in Windower, and in normal mode? I mean, if you change 003 and 004 do they affect both modes? Or do you have to change something else to affect Windower? Also, what exactly do 001 and 002 change?

After you change the values, do you have to restart FFXI?

    EDIT:

I'm not seeing any noticible changes no matter what I change the numbers to.

Bought a new computer and my screen now skips around more then it used to. Comp is pretty good just horrible graphics card. Is that my problem or did i just turn up the res to much in the config?

if you go up too much it'll get super choppy.

for example, i love 1680x1680, but the graphics lag is just too unbearable.

for me, 1280 or lower is the only that looks decent enough (non-super nintendo) and is actually playable even in higher congested areas.

playing native at 1680x1050 with everything turned up to max in settings i still get jagged edges and I can't get rid of them unless I crank my bg rez up to something obscene and then I get performance drops and dip below 15 fps in dynamis, is there any any other solution? (trees look jagged, PCs at a slight distance)..force antialiasing on nvidia control panel?

The game has natural AA, so no forcing it, just get mogtoolz from the windower forums link and use the "dynamis" settings when you're in dynamis.

I'm a little curious about this cause I run windower res at 1024 x 768 and then I changed 003 and 004 to 800 each for 2048 x 2048 and I get barely 10 fps in Whitegate(~30 fps if I'm at AH in First person). Was wondering how much fps I might be able to achieve with some tweaking.

Well, Whitegate isn't the best place to test your FPS. Go to Jugner or something.

For your 003/004, set them to 2048 and 1536 respectively, and see how that works out. Just a reminder, if you don't have the hardware to back it up, tweaks like these WILL create a drop in performance. This is all assuming your PC can handle it.
