HALP - American and EU POL CLients

I was going to look after a mates character but with my client being EU I am unable to start playing him, reactivate ids and pay for it etc. I am stuck however since he was set up on NA client and i can't reactivate his ids and start paying for them.

What are my options? (as below or otherwise)

    1) buy amercian version of game and import
    2) find a dodgy download online and fudge/hack serial codes
    3) have him keep the cc going and wire him the money for monthly fee?
    4) not bother

    FFXIV Character
    Elyise Thierremont
    FFXIV Server
    Gilgamesh
    FFXI Server
    Bahamut
    WoW Realm
    Muradin

Option 1) is probably your best bet. Just find someone who lives in the US or Canada, PayPal them the money for the game and shipping fees and put it in the mail. Bonus now is that there's the DVD collection so to cut down on shipping costs you can just put the DVD in a paper sleeve, insert the POL I.D. info and then mail it off in a small CD-sized package (USPS, CanadaPost, UPS, FedEx etc will all have packages especially for shipping optical media).

I did this for an old linkmate back in 2005 who was living in Belgium and wanted a copy for his wife. There was no EU version then, and he couldn't get a copy shipped over from the UK. I think it cost something like $15 CDN for the shipping, but it took almost 3 weeks for it to get from BC to Brussles.

To follow a dumb question with another....

Can I just flick the EU flag on windower to NA and confuse the POL server or will that have consequences?

well theres an easyer way and free for that matter

go DL the vista POL installer off pol site for US client and install it should work on XP if thats what u on dont see y not all it is is a higher version of pol that just happen to work with vista to begin with

next iam assuming u have your own EU pol installed alrdy?

go into regedit go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then go down to software folder next u should see both a EU client playonline and 1 that says PlayonlineUS now open that folder

now theres 3 more folders here installfolder, interface, and squareenix click on installfolder

next u should see only 3 entrys here 1 saying (defualt)(ignor this) and 2 numbered entrys 1000, and 0002

now that u found this go up or down witchever the case may be to your EU playonline folder and go to its installfolder and u will see 4 entrys on the window (defualt) 0001 0002 and 1000

what u need to do is double click on 0001 and copy the path that comes up just hit ctrl+c

now go back to your playonelineUS folder then to installfolder

right click anywhere in that window go to new then String value and left click that

now name the new string value u just created 0001 then double click on it and in the value data line paste in the path u copyed from your EU playonline folder

    now u should have 4 values (defualt) 0001 0002 and 1000

what u did was tell your US pol to use your EU playonlines FFXI's data

now load up your US pol without windower and go into it like always click the play botton and it will bring up the update screen and it will do a file check and DL the few needed files to run the US pol client correctly

after that it should work proprely as if u had 2 diffrent sets of the game installed

i did this on my comp i have JP EU and US pol's installed on my comp all using same FFXI files

Error 1335, The cabinet file 'data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the cd-rom or a problem with this package.
Above error received when installing the vista compatible version of POL. Not compatible with XP or am I missing something?

Just out of interest is the XBox version region specific to or 1 size fits all?

are u sure u copyed path correctly? thats only thing i can think of that would cuase a problem

u might be able to get away with only having US pol installed to turn account back on

go into it now and see if u can do it

An alternative solution has been suggested where I use the EU version to log the character in and play it. I've done this before so no problem. All billing and password to be altered by the original account owner with my details.

Works well for the arrangement to, I have his char he has my CC. We can both cancel access to them at any time.

Ok resolved it this way, thanks for the help anyway though.

I am thinking that it was a compatibility issue between the EU POL and the US vista installer, maybe works US Vista and US POL only. (but then I suck with computers most of the time anyway).
