    Comp's clock running fast

weird question, but my computer's internal clock runs fast. I have to keep doing updates with the local nist server every day or so, or I can get pretty far off (at least a minute per day) Obviously screws me over for getting ToDs and such. Anyone know what I can try to remedy the situation?

Set up Windows Time - it should keep your clock on properly. One sec, I need to remember where to set it up.

edit: I'm lazy and googled it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307897

no I don't overclock my computer, unless lolDell did it pre-ship. Don't have the cooling system to support it.

and I've setup windows time, however I'm noticing I still need to hit the update button every day (only updates the time automatically every week, which sucks ass). Is there a way to make it go more often? or a more permanent solution?

dunno why it's running fast though. a dying cmos battery used to make mine run slow when powered down.

ACK, Windows Time blows big fucking chunks on XP.

On windows 2000 it ran just like ntpd and would speed up or slow down your clock which is what you want.

On windows XP windows time will simply adjust your clock if it is off, and you know what happens if you are playing ffxi and the clock gets adjusted? You'll either slow down to a crawl for a min or you will start fleehacking and possibly get banned. With the time server set to automatic it will only do this once every few days(which isn't often enough) but if it is set to on it will do it every hour or so and make ffxi unplayable. It isn't uncommon for Microsoft products to become worse across upgrades (see win3.11s excellent tcp/ip stack).

Fortunately windows time server is not on by default in windows XP and you should instead visit http://www.ntp.org/ A good compiled version for windows XP is available for download http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm

This will "fix" your clock so it runs the right speed and won't need to be adjusted anymore. Oh ya, since FFXI servers are set via NTP also your computer will be accurate to the microsecond to FFXI servers which should help with ToDs.

    is your BIOS clock correct?

Reboot and hit F2 before the OS loads. If that's wrong, your CMOS battery could be dying.

    Re: Comp's clock running fast

Oh well, this helps me out too. My internal clock runs an hour slow, even though I thought I downloaded an update to fix that... So now, whenever I manually change the time on my PC and then restart it, it goes back to the original time. Weird :s
