There's certainly ways to clear the random linking mobs without bards, but I'm pretty sure the alternative methods are worse to most people.![]()
While said jobs make the fight substantially-drastically easier, you can kill fafnir without:Originally Posted by divisortheory

So no, not quite.
there's a difference between building instances in such a way that every job is useful (the assault system is a decent example if you look at the whole of it.) and building instances in such a way that certain jobs are required to make progress.Originally Posted by Munkey
this sounds interesting, let us know what happens if your group tries itone thing that i dont know if it's been attempted Kill the boss first and see if the bird pops. No where does it say you have to kill the boss last. I'd like to see what happens if kill the bird/tiger before you make the mass pull to see if it "calmed" them to thepoint of not linking. usually when we go in there is room to move around them to get to the far side. We're planning on trying it next time.![]()
And the same for Nidhogg?Originally Posted by Ryko
And i dont view it so much "stupidly broken" as i do the fact that we're ignorant of the mechanics of this region. We dont know what the birds/tigers do other than maybe drop a chest. We dont know and tricks, or nitches to the nms (i.e breaking tusks ect) They didn't hand feed us the information they expected us to figure it out on our own. Which i'm all for. Trial and error. I'm sorry if some of you thought you were going to just go in and win. And oh here you go have a few ebodys and who needs a dalmy? ok what time is dynamis tomorrow?
Last I checked aside from roar and the occasional wings up mode theyre the same mob. The difference isn't remotely as drastic as, say, turtle or behemoth to their HQ counterparts.Originally Posted by divisortheory
There's also the fact that you have to do it within an hour. Can't say I've ever tried with the method you describe, but seems to me like it would take a while. Just an alliance full of only RDMs and WARs, right?Originally Posted by Ryko
You run the risk of getting winged into the floor but 5 warriors should be able to bounce hate enough that the lack of elegy isn't as drastic and the lack of setting up bursts means they can go with a better weapon skill instead of having to use something stupid like smash axe or raging rush to set up fragmentation. Not counting an ideal situation and even maybe a death resulting in a sleep or 2 it should take somewhere in the range of 40-55 minutes (not exact but lots of personal experience with both low man and low-mage attendance fafhoggs :/)
We take 50k hp off chariots with 2 monks in 12-15 minutes without the ability to sleep and every TP move stripping off shadows. An ally of smart, well-geared rdms and wars will probably floor nidhogg quite easily.
I don't want to derail the thread, gonna stop replying about that after this post.Originally Posted by divisortheory

Actually, there isn't many event that require more than 1 or 2 of a particular jobs to be successful. The moment you enter in the area, you get the point you have to light sleep with BLU/BRD (or kite) everything. The strategies are obvious, and easy to execute, you just need to find the manpower for it. That's what I find annoying. Finding 1-2 brd isnt a problem, but more is for us.
This area imo would be perfect if it was scaled with the amount of people that zoned in, kinda like NE 3rd floor in limbus.
Rdm/nin can tank faf no problem, 2War/nin can tank it too, not as efficient but easily doable. We have done it without whm and brd, (3 rdm healer). The setup you posted is the optimal setup, but it's far from being a requirement.Fafnir requires at least these certain specific jobs to come:
PLD or NIN, RDM, WHM, BLM, BRD
Salvage requires at least these certain specific jobs to come:
MNK WHM RDM BRD

You dont need mnk anymore for salvage, and you usually need 3 healer (2 rdm 1 whm, or 1whm 2rdm for a 12 men alliance). Mnk is still the best jobs melee job, but you could get any dd for similar effect
Trial and error make you learn certain thing indeed, and maybe we will find a gimmick that make the area "easier". However, past experience with the game make me think it won't change much to the overall strategy.Originally Posted by Munkey

The thing is, the rest of the NMs don't need weird tricks or strategy, they're pretty straightforward fights. I personally don't mind difficult fights, but this is "stupidly broken" because it's a) significantly harder than all the other first-tier bosses and b) doesn't really give any better reward than the easier bosses. It's just a flip of a coin when you go in, whether you get the boss that any newbie sky LS can zerg to death or one that's still putting up a good fight against some of the best-geared and most experienced LSs in the game. It'd be a little different if the Marid's chest was guaranteed to drop an abj or something, but I don't see any reason to believe it will when the whole thing seems to revolve around randomness.Originally Posted by Munkey
Would having 1-2 balanced parties (Tank 2 SCers BLM WHm RDM etc) start to attack the boss at the 15 min mark while the rest take care of any other mobs be a good strategy perhaps?
We had the boss with like 17 minutes left toth, you'd need to start earlier.
Went in to the area that starts with an S today with 23, had 6 BLM, 3 BRD, 2 PLD, a few WHM and RDM and some assorted DD. Ended up getting 12x Ghosts and Wivre boss. According to the lamp it took us 4 minutes between the time the lamp was broken to our first pull so that sucked. By the time we got all the ghosts killed and had rested some mp back we had 13 minutes to take down the boss. We were doing really well until about 30% when one of our 2 PLD died. After that hate was crazy and DD's and mages started dying. We hadn't popped any 2 hours yet but with a good portion of the DD's weakened and mages pulling hate with a single nuke I don't think it would have mattered because anyone 2 houring would have died shortly thereafter. Ended up timing out with it somewhere around 16-17%. Also, The pink bird popped, we killed it and got a chest, no message though.
Run 3 for us gave us 10 dark elementals. We only went with 18 and 2 bards so yeah, we didn't get far![]()
Just beat Siegrune's Chamber. 15 undead wolves and the Buffalo Boss. The Brown Bird popped halfway through but depopped at exactly the 10 minute mark into the run (not sure when it actually popped), no message either. Won for our 2nd feather, hopefully cleared for 2nd tier by next Thursday. No abjuration either, just 2 hides and a piece of buffalo meat. 500 ampoules also.
