Probably obvious, but if this is true then spam dispel and keep him wasting tp on VT. Maybe the reason why sometimes he starts with shower is because he's buffed himself fully before you engage him. Or it could be time-based, worth checking both.

In Norse mythology, Hildisvíni (“battle swine”) was Freyja's boar which she rode when not using her cat-drawn chariot.

It was also the helmet of Áli that was taken by the Swedish king Adils after the Battle on the Ice of Lake Vänern that ended with Áli's death.

In Beowulf, it is said that a boar on the helmet was there to guard the life of the warrior wearing it.

    Re: Einherjar

I thought of the buff thing, actually. We may not have started casting magic on it, in order to get prepared fully to fight it. Not really sure. Hell, maybe we had someone AFK and sitting during that time.

Wouldn't chigoes spawn for each TP move, rather than just when he decided to spawn chigoes specifically?
If that is how this NM works, ie. like other Marids. It might also spawn them at set intervals. Has anyone else noticed that each time it uses Proboscis, it spawns Chigoes? I am not sure exactly how often he used Proboscis Shower but Chigoes were coming every minute or so. You could be right. I wasn't front line and had to run around a bit. I didn't notice a Chigoe issue until Proboscis Shower started. Maybe that was due to inattentiveness, though. Worth looking into, I guess.

I wasn't really gauging how often the Chigoes spawned, and it doesn't really have much bearing on what the post was about.

First time we got it down quite a bit with melee zerg before it started to spam, 2nd time it just spammed from the very beginning and we had problems even denting it without 2 hours or stuns.
This is what I am talking about. Why is there a difference here? Why did he start by not spamming it one time, then change over? If you started with melee zerg both times, then the Proboscis shower should have been spammed at the beginning both times, instead of just once, if it is solely TP-based. Maybe it is at the 20 minute mark that it happens, and you were above it once and below it once.

When I say spammed Proboscis Shower, I mean that is all it used, and I didn't notice it use another TP Move.

Important to note: We did not have a ton of people on it, and didn't really zerg it as it was the day Einherjar came out that we fought it, and didn't know how it worked. We had no idea to stun Proboscis Shower, because noone had heard of Proboscis Shower by that point. Like I said, up until about 75% of it's life, it was not gaining life. We didn't really have a stun order (meaning we stunned every once in a while), so I am positive we didn't get lucky and stun every Shower, and it certainly did not gain massive amounts of life during that time.

But it certainly could be the buff thing, or it could be the sitting thing, too. It is important to look at all options. The sitting thing is interesting to note, unless you had some killer effect on, or a hidden killer effect. Do you remember what you were wearing, eating, etc?

Freyja also disguised her lover?/protege? Ottar as Hildisvini at one point... Just a note.

However, the act itself of sitting on the boar could be enough to warrant it not Showering while the person who has it's attention (it's mount?)is sitting, ie. while Foula was sitting and tanking (was drawn in previously and possibly underneath Hildesvini at the time of sitting).

The boar was a symbol of Freyja's favor and protection, both in battle and in matters of fertility. This is from wiki.

Fertility icon and battle-mount... so, "mount the boar" is a double entendre in this case?

If Fou-Lu was actually under Hildesvini at the time of sitting down, that is probably why Hildesvini did not shower itself.

Makes sense to me. It would not shower itself while it's mount was on it.

But Hildesvini was mounting Foulu. Or, if he was underneath it at the time, perhaps it didn't use Probiscus Shower because it, instead, was preparing to use Golden Shower.

I think this line of thought is on to something! We are close to discovering SE's secret strategy for this fight.

    What helmet were you wearing?

I was thinking, certain helmets may put an intimidate effect on it. Patroclus Helm, Koenig, some other helms may put the effect.

May be worthwhile to test, since most people wear Turbans, would explain why no one has seen this effect.

    Re: Einherjar

I fought the Marid 2x. I never saw it spawn Chigoes or even use Stampede or V.Trunk, it ONLY used Probiscus Shower. The first time we had 18m or so to play with it and it NEVER did anything except use P.Shower, not with us straight zerging or trying to manaburn. The second time, the group decided to let the BLMs start on the Marid as they killed the lesser mobs. The very first move it used and ONLY move it continued to use was P.Shower.

I think it's just broken or something.

    Re: Einherjar

Just a note on the weird hate on the bosses, Buffalos have a hate reset move called Snort, which could make it hard to hold hate on that one.

My LS did one the other day though where we had the Wivre boss. I pulled it with Flash as PLD/NIN, then used Sentinel. Right after I used Sentinel, a WHM Hasted me (that was all he had done since I pulled), and the boss immediately went after him, then after a BLM who did nothing but Dia. So there's definitely something screwy with the Wivre's hate. Some people were joking that it seemed like he attacked the person with the least hate.

    Re: Einherjar

So far the only successful run our linkshell has had in Einherjar has been against the Buffalo boss. It may have been posted further back, but to win this, we basically had everyone get up against one of the walls, and just spank it. TP and magic seemed to both be effective. The knock back move was annoying, but seeing as its attacks don't do much damage, we didn't have too many problems once we figured out how to fight it. The hate issue was tricky, it looked to be totally random, but with 34 people in there it's hard to know what everyone is doing. We had some good luck that time as well, only a set of Triple Bats popped, I think there were ~12. Perhaps a few more. This occurred a few weeks back, but I figured the information may be helpful to the last few posters discussing the Buffalo boss.

I stopped reading at page 12, and am trying to catch up....

BUT. Something I found on wiki is kind of making me wonder if its been confirmed or not.

Huginn will leave behind an Armoury Crate containing various consumable items upon defeat.

Muninn will weaken the enemies upon defeat. A message stating "the creatures lurking in the
shadows have calmed" will be received.

Heithrun will leave behind an Armoury Crate containing various consumable items if left to despawn.

Saehrimnir will strengthen the enemies if left to despawn. A message stating "the creatures lurking in the shadows have become restless" will be received.

The way I read it Kill the Birds. Don't kill the Tiger or the Sheep? Again sorry if this was mentioned a few pages back
