or maybe you just have filters or something. lol
So, even if Foulu's /sit emote intimidated the marid, there's not much you can do about it since a tank can't really sit for long mid-fight. Although, I know you automatically stand if you are hit while resting, I forget if you stand up while /sitting. Either way, /sitting while tanking is rather impractical.
For that NIN/DRK that randomly intimidated the marid, too, were you also /sitting like Foulu just happened to be when the intimidation happened? Or resting, instead? Or looking away? Were any of you who intimidated the marid a taru? Did either of you touch any ebon panels recently?

Marid is obviously an attention whore.
Well, since he showers so often, I think it's apparent he is OCD or something. Perhaps a severe hypochondriac, like Hugh Heffner... or was that Howard Hughes?
But, when do you shower? When you're dirty, of course. So maybe don't debuff him.. or cast Water on him to clean him up a bit... or... um... I'll get back to you guys on this.

In our 6 victories, we have gotten 3 malboro and 3 orobon. We've seen dark elementals, ghosts, Doomed & Worms, bats, and maybe something else. We've killed the random monster every time and I have to agree with the previous post about the descriptions of what each one does. We've cleared Wing 1 twice in hopes to get as many people wing 2 access as we can. On friday we'll be doing our first tier 2 and hopefully have some fun stuff to share.
EDIT: Nevermind, redoing more tier 1 to get more people for tier 2
Would a separate thread for tier 2 be necessary?
Imo yes , because you'll be dealing with different bosses.Originally Posted by BRP

We got Skeletons and Hounds. We killed the S-tiger.
We engaged the marid boss with about 10 mins left, our strat was to let mages DD it and have melees sit on our asses as we expected no chigoes. Instead of spamming P.shower, it spammed Stampede every 30 seconds, our tank said he would use it everytime he used provoke. We got it to 83% lowest, but ended with it at about 91% due to a few random P.showers.
I'm just curious what everyone's general setup for crowd control and killing of the non-boss mobs is. Everyone's discussing boss strategies and it seems like a frequent problem for most groups who can't kill the boss is either because they're fighting the Marid (which so far has proved impossible to kill) or are running out of time before killing the boss. I'm thinking part of the key to victory may be maximizing the time on the clock before fighting the boss, so perhaps killing the hordes more quickly and efficiently may be at least part of the answer.
Thought I would share our strategy and get some feedback of what other people are doing who are having success.
Our crowd control is generally one party, sometimes an extra 1-2 people in another party in a single alliance together separate from all of the balanced melee parties. Our setup is generally:
BRD/NIN (initial puller, sleeper, and initial hate builder; bard tank - equips physical damage down gear)
BRD/??? (helps with lullaby cycle)
BRD/??? (helps with lullaby cycle)
BLU/NIN (uses Sheep Song, Actinic Burst, Diamondhide mostly)
PLD/NIN (cures the bards and blue mage, uses Sentinel, Cover, and Rampart; Invincible during Soul Voice)
PLD/NIN (2nd as backup, possibly optional, same duty as 1st PLD/NIN)
WHM/SMN (buffs, heavy curing for PLD/NINs or for BRDs if necessary, curaga if group is slept)
And our melee alliances are generally fairly balanced parties. Tank in those groups is generally NIN/WAR or WAR/NIN. Heavy on DDs if possible, /NIN in a lot of cases to absorb AOE damage from some of the bosses. Healers included in each group. If there's plenty of melees, can take multiple targets from the sleeping mobs at a time and spread out and kill more than one at a time.
We also tried something new the other night. We had a couple of summoners use Astral Flow and get off 3x BPs on our sleeping mobs. Our bards were able to maintain their sleep cycles while doing this. One summoner's avatar got slept and only got off one AF-BP, but the other summoner got off all three. 2HR blood pacts did around 1100+ damage on Dark Elementals (700+ on one of the elementals that resisted). I'd say 2-3 Summoners may be able to nearly wipe out the entire horde with one round of Astral Flow. If it doesn't kill all or most of the mobs, it leaves them extremely weakened making them fast kills for the melees. This could leave lots of time for fighting the boss.
We only managed to get our horde of Dark Elementals x12 down to 30-50% with our 4x BPs, but it was enough to clear them out quickly. Unfortunately, we had a horde of triple bats x12 also before fighting the buffalo, and we ran out of time before pulling the boss. We were low-manned with only 22 total people and that was a big reason for it. But it seems like this might be one possible way to buy lots of time to fight the boss. If it works, you could easily kill the entire horde in about 5 minutes (1 minute to get horde under control and gathered together with the bards, and 4 minutes for Astral Flows). Black Mages may even be of some help using -ga nukes, though they can't really shed their hate from nuking like an summoner can from his/her avatar by releasing it. Obviously the avatar would also have to be right on top of the horde to keep them all together and slept.
If that did work and you could guarantee wiping the hordes like that for all or most types of the random mobs in Einherjar, that leaves the melee free to scout and kill the bird that pops in the zone, buff up on temp items (if you get Huginn), and POSSIBLY even begin fighting the boss almost right away -- granted they have all the support they need already to fight the boss.
My linkshell has yet to get more than 30 people into Einherjar, but we've nearly completed some of Wing I chambers on 2-3 occasions with only about 22-25 people. Our biggest problem is generally a combination of needing more bodies to fight and/or running out of time before taking down the boss.
We're constantly revising our strategy, but the way my shell currently does it, we use as many BRDs as we can get for Lullabies, along with RDM and BLM Sleepgas, when they actually land. I don't think we've had less than 4 BRDs on any run yet. The annoying thing is double dark weather in there, which seriously hurts Lullaby.
Killing is the part that's going to be changing the most as we do more runs and refine our strategy. For easier mob setups, we use 2 targeters and melee/manaburn the mobs. With more annoying mobs, focus on one (they also seem to have less HP). The problem with that second strategy is that without perfect coordination, 12 Hounds/Skeletons are a pain in the ass to keep slept, especially if the BRDs get paralyzed (responsible for a wipe and failure against dogs).
I'll close with a little story to irritate you guys:
We cleared Rossweisse's Chamber on Saturday. The mob setup: 6 Jnun, Manticore boss, brown Bird, nothing else. I love random mob selection.
We're still waiting to get that lucky.Originally Posted by Ferien
We've got such bad luck it's not even funny. Like the 12x Dark Elementals and 12x Triple Bats the other day... with only 22 people.
Our bard sleep strategy has worked so far on:
-Hounds
-Ghosts + Doomtoads (pretty sure it was ghosts because I remember sleepga, definitely had toads also)
-Dark Elementals + Triple Bats
my take on Odin's Chamber:
you fight Odin *and* the 9 Valkyrie listed in the .dat
these 9 mobs have a chance to drop their respective key item, and could either be farmed or maybe avoided going straight for Odin.
Or 5 kraken DRK can just zerg odin and you won't even have to deal with the valkyrie!Originally Posted by Tomino

Yet, with a few RDM/DRKs, it might still work...Originally Posted by Zilong
