    Interesting assertion, but a few things:

    One, If you're in a TP Burn-style party, A PLD should be /NIN regardless. Utsusemi is happiness.

    Two, the Company Sword is not to be overlooked. In a party of six, it's 56DMG. It may not hit twice, but combined with a 264 delay, it's a pretty massive weapon.

    Three, put them both together, in combination wearing +haste% (Dusk or Homam, take your pick) and a Suppanomimi, you're going to be hitting fast, and often. The luxury of an A+ weapon skill on top of all the +sword skill equipment you can wear allows you to eat meat in parties, which'll make up some loss from losing Berserk from /WAR.

    Still, I'd like to see a parse of Company/Joy versus Justice/Joy.

    I recap XP on PLD with a Company/Joy combo, overall stats are:

    44 Accuracy + 8 Sword merits
    10% Haste
    ~40 Attack

    I can eat Meat reliably everywhere, although sometimes in Thickets on Mamool THF and NIN I swap to O Hat and suffer through it, since my damage is really crappy with Sushi.

    While I'm sure that /WAR with Joy would either come close or surpass my PLD/NIN build, lacking Justice Sword mainly, who wants to get hit in a merit PT? >.>

    Joyuese is 35 damage 224 delay. It is essentialy a 50% chance of double attack. So in actuality the stats can be summed up at 224 delay and 35*(1.5) damage. Aka 35+17.5 damage, making it 52.5 damage and basically have a store TP+50 mod on it (the two conditions are equivilent). Thus the 52.5 damage 224 delay sword is obviously better than Company's 56 264. It's 20% delay increase for a 10% damage increase, so the DPS doesn't hold out.



    Also assuming just for ease of calculations that you dual wield joy with another sword of the same delay.

    You have a 15% haste bonus on Dual Wield II. In 100 attack rounds, that gives you an extra 15. So if you have joyuese + another 224 sword, you have essentially 230 attacks + 230(*.25) attacks from Joyuese's doubling, that makes 287.5 attacks. Take Joyuese alone, you'll only get 200 attacks, but you'll double attack 50% of the time, which gives you 300 attacks. Thus the haste's effect on dual wield actually slows down how fast you hit, by turning your double attack % in a combat round from 50% to 25% (because you've only got 1 Joyuese).

    It's more complicated than this, but I'm fairly sure it's generally right. In actuality company + Joy will slow down your double attack rate *even more* because of the extra delay on the company.

    And as for /nin, PLD doesn't need it. You simply don't take enough damage for being hit for you to require to have it. Your shield + natural defense and vitality makes up for any lack of it, and if you take damage, you can just cure yourself.

    Sentinel's Shield + Joyuese before Justice Sword 4tw.

    Edit: Consequently if the haste bonus was 20% (5% extra), then there'd be 240 attacks per round, 60 extra due to double attack, and /nin would be equal to /war for attack speed. Which just goes to show you that Joy single wielded gives about 5% extra haste for melee attacks (6% if you consider the sentinel shield's boost).

    Plus the piercing effect is nice on a lot of things you level on ToAU. Flies, Puks, Colibri, et cetera.

    Edit 2: Hmm, with Suppa you'd get that 20% bonus, making them 1% difference. The piercing damage may still ourparse if you're doing heavy amounts of puks or flies (piercing gets a 1.25% bonus on those). Don't discount berserk, attack bonus, double attack, or the extra stat boost from war though. And for those without suppa, /nin < /war definitely on Joy.

    Vorpal Blade ignores this 52.5 and simply takes from 35 damage, not to mention higher dmg cap on Company on fSTR forumula (I believe?).

    Absolutely, in general /nin gives an extra hit for WS and company sword mainhand will do a bunch of damage too.

    But I think the higher TP gain, DoT, berserk, and attack bonus will definitely outparse the ability to mainhand company sword.

    I know that I personally have always done better with just Joyuese and /war than I have with Company Sword + Joyuese, and I have Homam Feet Legs Hands, W Turban, and Swift Belt.

    And there's simply no contest between /war and /nin on pierce weak mobs (and what, 50% of what you merit on in ToAU, at least, is pierce weak?).

    Don't forget, that for purposes of fSTR also, that Company Sword's base damage is taken, not the enhanced.

    Oh, I actually remembered something. DA from /war is 10%, therefore by statistics (I won't do the calculation) that brings Joyuese's DA rate to 55%

    Which makes that 287.5 attack rounds for /nin (or 300 with suppa) vs. 310 /war without any gear.

    knew it! i always felt like this was the case 'cause my vorpals didnt seem like they were coming from a 56 dmg weapon...

    For what it's worth, I don't think justice sword can proc on WS. Joyeuse either.

    Jailer weapons are unlike other weapons, in that their double attack effects can proc on WS. As for Joy, it can't.

    And for the most part up and comming PLDs will pretty much mix ShieldSkill+Attack mixes instead of the classic DEF+VIT builds.

    Seems to be working out a lot better and with AutoRefresh+Sanction+ParadeGorget I see no reason for you to not having a mix like this.

    Also the 180 Crit isn't to bad if the normal range is 30-90. Just dump a cure IV and be ready to go.

    Partied again last night, went from 67-68 though, so I'm definately getting high for Erucas.

    I truly believe that the retard JP's, and that fucking retard NA WHM who thinks that "people who use PL past lvl 40 are people who dont know how to play this game" in that party set me up to look bad.

    The resulting opinion leans in favor of the slight DD + Shield SKill PLD versus the traditional DEF/VIT build, especially in Aht Urghan.

    Most people noticed an increase in XP/hr when ditching the old gear and using Hauby, Life Belt, ACC ring, Meat or Sushi, etc, with AF1 Feet, Shield Torque, Buckler Earring for damage mitigation.
