Re: New Jobs' Merit 2 Abilities Discussion

The beauty of Fold is that it allows more risk on the part of the player; if you're waiting for a double-bust you aren't putting it to good use. However, if I'm sitting on IX with Evoker's and Fold is ready, I'll always double-up. If I bust, I can trash the roll, re-roll it, and continue to double-up past VI on all rolls from that point. With a 10 min timer in Fold I almost never have to play conservatively.
And to above posters, the benefit of taking risks on COR isn't a matter of opinion, it's a statistical fact.

Re: New Jobs' Merit 2 Abilities Discussion

    as further Fold/SE argument :

    SNAKE EYE needs
    - a Lucky -1 result
    - a result of X
    - an Unlucky result

all 3 cases require a % event that's not so likey to happen everytime.
It's more likely than you think. For a Lucky V roll (which the vast majority of our best rolls are), the probability of just landing on a IV is 26.4% every time you do a new roll. Lets take a conservative estimate and assume that you're on a 3-roll cycle and you're doing 6 rolls every 10 minutes, which is about the lowest frequency that most COR's will ever be rolling. The probability that you will not land on IV on any of those 6 rolls is (.736)^6 = 15.8%.

So even if we ignore the probabilities of landing on IX or X and assume that the COR is rolling as infrequently as they possibly can, chances are very high that you are going to hit a IV and want to use Snake Eye to hit V at least every 10 minutes, if not more frequently. That's why I'm a big proponent of putting 3/3 into Snake Eye. Whether you put 1/3 into Fold or 3/3 into Fold is your call - I can't deny that Fold is also a very useful ability, and it's hard to compare its effects numerically against Loaded Deck or Winning Streak since they do completely different things.

As for deciding whether to use Fold or Snake Eye on something like Unlucky IX, that's a bit trickier, and it depends on the roll you're looking at. For Evoker's, it's basically a choice between getting 2 mp/tick for the next 3-5 minutes by using Snake Eye to hit X, or having a 1/6 chance at 2 mp/tick, 1/6 chance at 4 mp/tick, or 4/6 chance of having 0 mp/tick for 1 minute (assuming Random Deal isn't up or doesn't proc) and rerolling from scratch. Personally, I prefer to save Fold for times that I bust from doubling up on VI or VII.
