Re: Current Known Issues (Jun. 8, 2007)

i used a macro on PUP to engage myself to the mob and then have it engage the puppet to the same target right after. I used:
    /attack <stnpc>
    /wait 1
    /pet "Deploy" <last>

this macro is busted since the patch. I changed it to have the deploy use <stnpc> too, which adds flexibility I guess but not really what I want. How should i be doing this?

is last not really a supported tag and it was just defaulting to what Id just targetted so worked? should i be using <lastst> or something? I do something similar in a protect/shell macro i haven't checked...

Because you've been using the wrong command the entire time, its <lastst>

It worked before because the game defaulted to <t> when you did <last>, and now its not defaulting.

GDI, this has been happening to me during besieged lately. Also what's the deal with Level 8 besieged? Lv.7 was cool, Lv.8 is a pain in the ass.
I think lvl 8 was simply implemented to make servers lose the AC
    Except Siren is still wining

first 2 Level8s hurt pretty bad, like nearly 2 hours each

3rd lv8 that came at us (mamool) Siren won in like 40minutes >_>; shit is crazy how hard core some of these people take this.

(JP friend says destorying arcanic mirrors pussifies the armys)

    O.o

I have to lol a little at that, it was mentioned that the Mirrors affect the armies, I think they were a weird attempt, along with the -bane weapons to get us to Exp in the strongholds, but those wind up being second rate to the other camps usually.

"We can get exp, AND help keep the Asscandy, yay!"

Do you have to kill the mirrors before the armies start preparing? Or just before they reach town?

If I didn't have a LS, I probably would move to Siren. God damn, Midgardsormr loses the AC once every two weeks.

Killing the Archaic Mirrors will cause the beastmen army to slow down how fast thier forces get too 100. Except when ToAU came out and they were defenseless, people were slaughtering mirrors left and right and Besieged wasnt happening enough for SE's liking. So they added 2 Mirror Gurad NM's that link to the mirro when you mess with it and now no more mirror soloing.

SE's *want's* us to lose the Astral Candy. and since servers arent losing it enough, harder Besieged.

If it took us 3-4 days to get it back i think that would be about the time they'd back down on making the Besieged harder.

You should test things before you make claims like that. I own both an ATI 1950 and lots of NVIDIA cards. I gave up on NVIDIA due to the increasingly buggy drivers. The ATI card has no spell-lock at all. I can't verify other cards, but from what I've read in other forums (particularly windower forum), many other people have noticed this difference, too. Those posters here with ATI cards that say they have spell-lock are really the only believable ones -- the rest of you just sound like you own Nvidia stock. If you're seeing spell-lock with ATI, perhaps it's a result of directX version AND driver or maybe it's only the recent ATI cards & drivers that don't have the bug.

'Course ATI has it's own problems, too -- worse ones, imho. I had to give up on ATI and go back to Nvidia. The ATI card had *serious* overheating problems. The vanilla driver would run the card in two modes (low clock for 2D, high clock & voltage for 3D). After 1-4H in 3D, the card would start to overheat and eventually shutdown. Hacking their driver to make it keep the fan at 100% helped, but didn't solve it -- just pushed it out to around 5-6H. Completely unacceptable to have a card's HW fail like that.

Nvidia's software may be bad, but at least their hardware works. The 8800 I have now averages 10C *hotter* than the shutdown point for ATI, but works just fine 24x7 and the fan at 100% is quieter than the ATI's at 30%. ATI at 100% sounds like a 707 taking off. If ATI's HW didn't fail, I'd still be using it. When the HW was working, everything ran better and looked nicer than Nvidia. ATI SW is much better than Nvidia's. HW>SW, though. Nvidia may suck, but ATI swallows. ><

For those of you that want to verify things this is what doesn't have spell-lock: ATI 1950, drivers 7.1 & 7.2, directx 9c 2/07 version. I had read elsewhere that *all* ATI's don't have spell-lock, but if some of you have ATI cards with spell-lock, obviously there's something else involved. This is the only one I personally verified to have no spell-lock.

It's really only one or the other, it doesn't matter what motivation they have to state it either way. "Oh well it's only an Nvidia problem" can only be true or false, you cant discredit a yes or no answer with an accusation of bias assuming said yes or no answer isn't a lie, which in this case, it obviously isn't.

Yep calling bullshit too. Anyone with some knowledge of graphics programming should be able to guess why spell-lock exists, and it's not due to graphics drivers.

PS. I have 2 computers with different ATI cards, and the spell-lock issue affects both of them.

Spell-lock isn't caused by your graphics card, it's actually the way animations are handled by the game engine.

It was added around the time the 5 series came out (I think) and has been there ever since. NVIDIA refuses to fix their code, stating that it's SE's problem.

Did the PS2 "Graphics Synthesizer" use nvidia drivers past the 5 series? Because that's what you're saying.
Also, citation needed on nVidia's statement saying that.

Heh. Indirect aspersions and hints that you might be competent usually backfire. I'd avoid them. I could just as easily point out that "anyone with some knowledge of the games driver writers play with the driver behavior in order to bench higher should be able to guess why spell-lock might not be present on some cards". Instead I'll point out the reason itself: a normally synchronous operation could be done asynchronously by the driver -- even to the point of ignoring a specification that states the operation must be done synchronously. Hell, I personally saw one driver that disabled the system clock by turning off all interrupts during driver execution in order to force benchmarks to be higher. The card never released, but many manafacturers are beyond sleazy in their attempts to win the benchmark wars. With the recent increase in the number of SMP systems on desktops and driver support for SMP, I'd guess it would be even more likely to find some normally synchronous operations handled handled mostly asynchronously.

Anyway, your ATI cards have the bug. That's good info -- you should post more details to help narrow things down. I never claimed it was a pure nvidia bug -- only that I heard it was. Obviously what I heard wasn't correct and if only some ATI cards don't have spell-lock it might even be considered a "bug" that they don't have it, though it's a nice bug. It's a fact that some ATI card+drivers do not have spell-lock. The 1950 with 7.x doesn't. It irks me no end that I can't use the thing because it keeps overheating. When it worked, it was sooo much nicer to play with than the nvidia cards.
