    Re: nVidia + Firaga/Ballad issues

FFXI sets a render state that hits a software path in the NVIDIA drivers, is my random guess. Are there any tools that can capture Direct3D calls (like PIX, but supports whatever version of DirectX that FFXI uses)? If so, could do that and then have a peek.

    Re: nVidia + Firaga/Ballad issues

Never had a problem with spell lag/character lag with my old 2.4ghz p4 dell with 256mb ram and a geforce 4, then I upgraded to a dual core with a 7600 and everything just got shitty. Simple solution: old games work well with old computers. But now actually, I'm running e6600 and an 8800 graphics card and it doesn't drop one a bit, computers are odd sometimes....

I heard their newest drivers fix this problem. Can anyone confirm/deny?

I have 2 nVidia 7950 GT KOs with the newest nVidia drivers and I don't have a problem at all. I have all effects on w/out lag. Don't think I had a problem before that I can think of however.

162.18? Suppose I could give them a try, but I hate the new control pannel.

EDIT: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=232692 Bleh, scaling problems with LCD's. Guess I'll try them anyways, since there's nothing else to do.

I just upgraded today - I'll let you know tonight if no one has responded by then.

I use a pair of 7800GTX (overclocked but not by much) SLI - I didn't really 'lag' with it, but I did lose ~10-15fps as the animation rendered before.

hoping I don't see a frame drop tonight in limbus.

Change back to the old control panel. You can do it in the registry. Also, explain scaling to me, I only use square monitors, i hate widescreen haha.

The new drivers seem to have worked for me (using a 7800GTX)... no lag at all now on the stuff that used to mess up my FPS (all bard songs, fire spells, warp/escape etc). As a full time BRD I'm pretty happy now :D

Great to hear! I'll re-install my nVidia card when I get home <3.

    Re: nVidia + Firaga/Ballad issues

Well definitely fixed (only tested on my self before). just finished meriting, and with 3-4 bards within range, never dropped below 25 FPS. amazing scenes. usually it's pretty much a constant 3 FPS with all those songs going off, haha.

hope they work for everyone else too!

    Re: nVidia + Firaga/Ballad issues

mostly working for me except now I'm getting artifacting near certain independent light sources (tessellating shadows mostly D: )

.. I may clean the fans, and remount the boards again - I'm hoping it's not a software or hardware issue, and just a poor connection. >.>

You can't do that with all the drivers, only some of them which include both. As for scaling, I'm currenty running widescreen(16:10). Default resolution is 1680x1050. So I play a game like Warcraft3, which doesn't support widescreen and I'm stuck with 4:3 ratio resolutions only. So what happens by default is that it takes the, lets say, 1024x768 resolution and stretches it out to fit the screen. The monitor is widescreen, so the X axis get's super stretched making everything look short and fat. There's fixed aspect scaling, which stretches the image out to fill the monitor from top to bottem but keeps the image at the 4:3 ratio. You get black spaces on the sides by doing this. Another option is to not stretch the image at all, and you get black on the top and bottom, if that makes any sense.

Oh, and I ran the reg file I had for the old control pannel and it actually worked. Maybe you can use that for all the drivers.

I also upgraded to the latest drivers after always having the firaga/bard song slowdown (6800Ultra overclocked) and they all went away.

Ditto. Since installing the new drivers, I've been able to put my 6600GT back into the computer and increase the BG res to 15something x 15something and put video settings at max with 20-30 fps full time.

Still having it here even after update unfortunately, had a nice Firaga3 hit my ally, frame-rate crippled to 1-3fps as usual, stupid 6800GT. -.-

Here's to hoping the DX9 engine fixes this and many other obscure graphical issues.

I notice the problem tended to happen when in first-person mode. Switching to 3rd person tends to help. Also do you have the most recent drivers (iirc dated July 27th or somewhere in that range)?
