We have tried 2 strategies: Kiting and straight tanking. Kiting wasn't working because we rarely have more than 0-1 BLM or 0-1 RNG. We usually get 1 MNK if not two, and we tried having the MNk share tank with a NIN/WAR. I am not quite sure why that did not work last run (I was absent that run). I think whoever was leading allowed too many Melees to pile on it and it spammed too many TP moves. Our normal setup is something like:Originally Posted by divisortheory

1 WHM

1 BRD
0-1 COR
1 THF
2-4 Random DD (DRG, WAR, SAM usually)
0 BLM (1 if we are lucky)
0 RNG (same)
What should we do lol?
"Extra" DDs should not fight the chariot, the exception being Jump/Highjump and meditated-WS. Bring a second WHM. You should be able to take it down in <20 minutes using just 2 DDs.Originally Posted by Ryushii

Though in all seriousness, we've done it with 2x MNK tanking, and 1x MNK / 1x NIN. The only other DD that was feeding the thing TP was a SAM. He reported more success with /RNG than any other sub. It was also useful for the kite fest at the end, but that's something our group prefers to do: Take it steady until 20-25%, then let BLMs unload/kite the thing around.
Well you definitely don't have the right setup for kiting so forget about it unless you somehow manage to find 4 BLMs and RNGs.Originally Posted by Ryushii
For straight tanking, I think the same rule applies universally to every chariot in Salvage, including the non-boss chariots: never more than 2 melee fighting.
If anyone can come PLD/NIN, you might consider having them be one of the outsiders building hate. This way when Homing Missile goes off, the PLD/NIN can cure the MNKs instead of the WHMs.
The problem is always going to be getting hate back after Homing Missile, so the best advice I can give is to do your best to ensure that Homing Missile rarely if ever gets off with positioning.
If you still can't get hate back after Homing Missile, do what people do in Zhayolm. Keep everyone in the alliance in Homing Missile range and bring a few extra WHMs then a hate reset won't even matter.
I am worried that only 1 NIN and 1 MNK/NIN (which is as much as we normally get) would not be enough damage. We also have a very limited WHM supply: barely better than our BLM/RNg supply. We tried SAM/RNG once, but he did not appear to have very much success (dunno if he was well equipped or not).
We killed the non-boss chariot in Zhayolm with 2 PLD/NIN and 2 MNK/NIN. Does that sound feasible for this boss?
I know very well that no more than 2 DD should be on the boss at a time. What other DDs besides MNK are successful on the Chariots? Maybe we could substitute the MNK for another DD (like WAR or SAM)/NIN? Cells are so easy to get in this zone anyway.
Come to think of it...we may have yet to win because I can't seem to remember our last serious attempt at this boss. Last time I think they piled on too many melee, and I don't think we've had a run where we had a back up voke for HM...maybe we need to just give it a shot when I am in charge one day. I will try and get back to y'all if it still isn't working.
Unless you're getting to the top with like 10-15 minutes left, it should be enough.
Is 40 enough?
You can Avesta it in 40 minutes...
For LBC I bring Ravenlokk as PLD. Taru pld/nin's got like 500 base mp, so they're essentially another whm for extra cures. If HM gets off, taru pld/nin gets hate, can hold it untill mnk's get hate back.
And crying sounds are "Wahhhh" not "whaaaa".
Someone replicate what we did and see; Im in Nashville for an interview until Friday and a number of our members are out of town until Sat. so we can't go again until Sat / Sun.
And for the guy asking about LBC, anymore than 2 people in melee range and you're just wasting MP unless it's a third MNK/NIN and you have multiple revitalizers or something. We use a Kikoku NIN and a MNK/NIN on LBC rotating around it to avoid HM with me on the outside as RNG and it takes probably 15 mins to drop it 100-0 safely.
A small request, could someone tell me what gear a MNK/NIN and a NIN/WAR should be wearing against LBC? We tried today but the NIN died within the 1st 3% (Later found out he had 250 DEF and was taking 500 regular hits).
I don't play either jobs so I don't really know what they should be wearing.
I usually gear up in full DD like I would do in merit, and usually only died when the bastard hits 30%> and start triple attacking me after discharge.Originally Posted by Kirbyprime
Though Alma is usually taking the brunt of the hate for the most part of the battle since he 100fist at start to get hate, and he seem to gear up on full DD too.
Each tank should have 2 mages supporting him, otherwise he'd die soo fucking fast and hard, it won't be funny.
Still though, LBC is a joke to tank the first 30%, mild annoyance from 70% > 30% when he start turning, and a fucking spawn of satan at 30% > 0% when he get triple attack, TP regen, and still retains homing missile.
Paralyze it. Slow it. Elegy it. Get recast cap for Utsusemi.Originally Posted by Kirbyprime
Only chance your NIN will be hit is after a TP move went off. If he can't tank it with all the debuffs, get a better one. >.>
What he said.
or get a better RDM that his paralyze actually proc and has a Slow II !.Originally Posted by TB
As mentioned, he needs 420+.Originally Posted by Kirbyprime
The tanks need 2 mages each? And 420 def? Geez. That could be it. Do you have them use Tacos or DD food?
By the way, how would a non-MNK/NIN do?
We use the kiting method because we have quite a few people with BLM levelled in our shell, and we have them eat tacos. Gets their DEF up above 400 pretty easily. With over 400 DEF he'll hit you for less than 200 almost every time with normal hits. Crits will still be high, but usually not more than 500.Originally Posted by Ryushii

I personally go with 2 mages, my defense is somewhere on the 200s or less if I decide to berserk out of boredom if the other tank has hate (more often than not, this knocks me out enough to cancel when I do get hate)
But really, if your NIN dies at first 3% of the HP...you're doing something very fucking wrong,
I'm gonna guess that you're tossing too much melee at LBC, only have 1 dedicated healer, the NIN sucks horribly, or any combination of those.
If you're gonna be using 2 DD tank method, you should really limit the amount of non BLM DD on LBC. RNG gives a lot of TP from ranged attack due to mob's TP gain formula (You basically give him ~20% TP per shot) and any melee range DD is a liability from AoE.
Most of our success on LBC usually consist of 2 MNK and/or NIN tank, 2 RDM, 2 WHM, 1 BRD, 1-2 BLM, 1 RNG
On a smooth run, it's ~10 min kill with just that, with the tank doing most of the damage, and BLM unloading at 20% or lower.
Also help if you get a good amount of assassin/oracle drink, since it pretty much turns the RDM into a killing machine on the last few percents.
If possible, you'd want to make sure you get Pannus Cell on this method...since -30 STR is really bad for damage tanking...and LBC living slightly longer on his final moment is never fun.
But if your group has a lot of BLM, nuke/kite method may give you better result.
