Just my experience, but single gears die fast as hell with even moderate DD, pull fast, sleep links, and clear the room in a few minutes. Works a hell of alot better.

My shell kills those gears in just a few mins as well and on lots of diff set ups since we split into several groups to do diff zones. So I def agree that the best idea is to clear the gears if going that path.
What is the fast was to Kill the Ares Gear? My LS is having a small problem with it, and we could use the advice.
PT make-up is NIN SAM DRK DRK WHM RDM THF. I am thinking we need a BLM to MB the SC on it, but some Vet advice is welcome and appreciated!!
Thank You

only let people with subtle blow melee?
I realize you only have one, but it's that or zerg it as best you can with 100scythe/gaxe/kclub w/e darks. TP gain leads to big restorations = long fight. control TP gain and you'll kill much faster.
you need more Subtle Blow =/Originally Posted by Gundameypon
When we kill it, we usually do MNKx2 +DRK, and it dies very fast. I'd recommend the NIN solo tank it for you, although I don't personally have any experience with NIN solo tanking it.
Could someone elaborate a little more on their strategy against LAC when it does Brainjack?
We get all the melee to switch out main weapons for weak or no weapons & yet a few of our mages still die from all the chaos. Wish we had shadowbind but no RNG. By the time Brainjack phase is over, the alliance is crippled & don't have enough resources to recover.
Thanks for any help!
If you have a WHM/SMN, use Garuda. Aerial Armor before you Assault and she'll be able to survive the trip back with the Devilet most of the time.Originally Posted by fishstix
sorry if this is too obvious lol...Originally Posted by Gundameypon
SAM- run in for ws and run out
DRKs- absorb-tp, run in for ws, stun
THF-run in for TA, SA, WS
have them run in after it does tp move so no risk of it AOEing all the melee
tbh your ppl just need to learn to kite better.. You should know when to expect it to Brainjack and once it starts, have your ppl run immeadiately. I'm one of the 2 MNKs we use and if the other MNK happens to have hate at the start of Brainjack I can usually kite LAC until Brainjack is over. Just run around the outside of the room and use the pillars and tele pad things to screw up it's pathing. He really isn't very hard to kite but if people just run around all over the place I guess it can get messy with him just trucking through ppl.Originally Posted by Kittyn
We usually have 2MNK and a NIN now, NIN is mainly there to voke after jack sessions and establish hate and then backs off once MNKs have it. It can get a little messy but usually not so bad you can't recover quickly.
We found kiting LAC during brainjack phase to be a lot easier if its done where you tele up and the 2 rooms to the right and the left.
if you're kiting it properly, will you get the "too far" message when it tries to brainjack you?
my group's been doing 134 and playing with boss to get used to kiting it properly but people are just dying left and right. we're gonna try kiting it in the small left/right teleport exit rooms next time to see how that works... but one question, do you gain distance kiting around the teleport pad or does LAC cut across it? we had that problem with the big room telepads![]()
The way we kite it is we fight in one of the teleport rooms. Let's say we're fighting in the West room. We have the mages near the room exit and the melees across the room. LAC starts turning and doing Brainjack, we all start kiting. Basically, we go to the East room and wait at the Easternmost pillar, across the room, and wait for LAC to get in the room and start moving to the pillar direction (he won't bee-line, he'll go around the pillars just like you did) and then we start moving again, circling the teleporter and going to the West room. By the time you're in the West room, you should be able to get back in the fight - i.e. people are uncharmed and the Chariot is no longer on Brainjack mode.
If people are still charmed, wait for LAC in the Westernmost pillar across the room the same way you did in the East room, and resume kiting when he starts to head your way after entering the room. The only problem we've encountered doing it this way is sometimes LAC will catch up when people are slow to move after waiting for him in the pillar, and it'll sometimes do Inertia Stream which obviously doesn't usually end well.
I've gotten too far away when it tried to jack me once because I lagged as I was kiting.Originally Posted by SK_FFXI
If its done correctly whenever it gets close enough to you to TP, it'll use Discharge/Inertia Stream and those you can avoid because they are centered around the chariot, this is the reason why you can kite it without having 12% movement speed during a jack phase.
If jack phase is done, its key to have tanks/melees get hate back ASAP, because if you don't have 12% movement here LAC will catch you and keep up with you np. Usually what I do on RDM after jack phase if tanks can't get hate back ASAP is just stop running and let it hit me while they get hate back, usually 1 Asuran Fists will get hate no problem. I pop on Terra's Staff/Cheviot Cape/Jelly Ring and it only hits me for like 100-200 tops on a normal melee hit, crit will hit harder, but as long as its got slow/elegy on it, it won't hit me more than 1-2 times before melee get hate back.
SO.
Who wants to duo this boss with me?
I am thinking Nin/dnc and Rdm/whm.
Au Latts for charm phase, have some friends help me/rdm near full unlock us on the first floor then just go straight to boss with like 1 hour left.
I was going to try and solo it, but I dont think I stand a chance w/o being hasted and having slow on the boss.
Suggestions?
It only uses Jack if you are close enough and it's near instant. It IS possible to get out of range if you are already on the move though, I've done it a few times, just keep running and never stop! We fight in the main room and I kite it easily as Monk, as long as I have time to get a jump on it. Just run all along the outside of the room and around the pillars at the ends. It stops alot to use Discharge/Inertia Stream and if I get a big enough jump on it to kite it, unless I get hit with Inertia and bound, I can kite it until the end of the Jack session usually.
The key is in getting that big jump on it. Once it turns, just hit your gimp weapon macro and run like hell. If I was top of hate list I'm jacked but if I was second, I am usually on the other side of the room by the time it tries to jack me. It saves a TON of time if only one person gets charmed. The only time I stop kiting is when the other MNK/Tank gets uncharmed, usually jack is over by then. I've only been jacked once after charm wore off the other MNK, guessing she resisted it or something and uncharmed early. (she typically uncharms before me for some reason, even if I was charmed first..no odd charm resist gear or anything)
He is really easy to kite, just need to get out of Jack range asap and keep on the move. It is also really helpful to have someone who can voke after Jack sessions to help re-establish hate. We have one NIN who comes and he just stays off it and vokes to hold it for the MNKs. I typically try to save Counterstance to use right after, since CS gives a good chunk of hate. I obviously never have TP to AF it because I always switch weapons to something gimpy.
At above; Unless you have the RDM kite it while you are jacked you wouldn't be able to kill it, since it will regen once it jacks you both. Not even possible to solo it at all because of that and just the fact that it would prolly rape your timers.
1. It wont rape my timers with full haste build, haste spell, and slow2 on it.
2. Rdm DoT will keep it from regening during jack stages.
3. Rdm with crimson can EASILY kite this w/o getting jacked, as we do this every time (rdm or pld kite, usually only one of our group ever gets jacked).
It doesn't regen normally.
As long as the RDM doesn't get charmed it won't regen.
Only regens when all hate is lost.
Ya I have a few more lvls on DNC before I can try it, should prove to be funny if anything.
@1. I specifically said, "not even possible to solo because it would rape your timers and regen while you are charmed" because you stated you were thinking about soloing it originally. . . Thanks for reading my comment fully and making a comment that had no bearing on it.
I kite it all the time on my MNK, so obviously I know how easy he is to kite. My comment was simply pointing out a problem you could encounter if both members were charmed with no dot on it. gl tho~

The ONLY reason I dont think i can solo it nin is because of recast timers vs. attack speed. Just based on its delay vs. accuracy, I would NEED about a 30% boost in timer/chariot attack ratio. Hence the need for a rdm.
