And do you not bring a THF? THF and BRD are two required jobs for us, we won't even start a run without them.
Brd is only needed if you plan to do all+boss with 2 tanks. We do fine with 2 tanks (monks) and no brd but don't get the boss in silver sea in that case - 3 mnks for all + boss in silversea is doable with no bard. No brd in zhayolm for all+boss is doable, but not doable probably in arrapago. W/e you do anyway, the third melee, wether it's mnk or thf will do much less than the first 2 due to cell limitations.

Of course we do, the THF is the 7th person in outside party. As for BRD, it isn't really that needed. It does help, and does speed the runs up, but it isn't a necessity.

I know MNK's aren't needed in Salvage anymore. However, we have 5 Black Belt MNK's, 3 of them have full Usu. Only 1 of those have another melee job leveled (unless you count PUP a melee job), and he usually comes SAM unless he want to come MNK.

    SSR

We do SSR 1 2 3 4 + boss regularly with 8-9, BRD with Fife or Relic is a Must. The secret is Getting off the first floor as quickly as possible. To do so you need a Little luck with cells. Also Assign 1 PERSON to Check chest You must be Moving and killing at all times. BRD should be check the Chests in down time.

    Here's are Setup:
    Black belt MNKx2
    BRD - With Storm Fife
    WHM
RDM - Capped Phalanx II - A must!
    BLM
    COR
WAR- with Bravura ( alt can be a SAM )
    THF - TH4

You Need to do SC chains to breeze threw the gears and formors
Darkness or Light does nasty damage and is a must!

1st Floor - 15-17 MINS TOPS ~ Only pull enough formers in the first 2 rooms to get your THF HP Feet VIT and AGI. Make Sure you also have 2 healers
Pull the formors in the NM room according to what is needed
Usually depending on what drop's in those first 2 room you will want the AB or Magic Formor first! Once the formor's are all dead Start the NM immediately
Have the BLM burn his MP and head to the zone asap.

2nd floor ( Morrgains ) - You need the THF thats capable of pulling the fomor's steadly while the MNKs and the WAR do Darkness and the BLM MBs. The THF might even have a hard time keeping up even with Movement speed. If the THF happens to link have the THF kite them and Make sure your THF is smart enough to tell the mages 'GET UP! LINK' or the mages will die and you will wipe. Also, always Kill Imps first on links! You wanna be off this floor with @ the 45-50 Mins mark TOPS! It can be done in less time.

2nd Floor ( Marduk ) - Pwn the Imp and His NM imp Buddy! Should take no longer then 12-15 mins which will put u @ the 27-30 min mark.

3rd Floor ( skadi ) - Gear's are weak to WS and SC also. Just pwn them quickly with the BLM MBin' all 8 gears and the NM should take no more then 10-12 mins. The Imp can be a pain and take about 5 mins. Just try to have someone ready to cast Dia or Stun every 10% so you dont waist anytime chasing it around. 45 min Mark

3rd Floor ( Ares's ) - Have the THF pull the gears Linking Ramparts and other gears. VERY easy to kite around the middle room and lose aggro. Have the DD Stand in the middle of the Room and the mages on the back wall. By doing this u will be able to find out which rampart is the one you need to kill.
Once the gears are Dead Have the WAR ( or SAM ) and the BLM go start the Rampart since while the MNKs take out the NM. By the time the NM is dead the Rampart will be near death and zone up asap. Going either Path this should leave you @ the 60 min mark!

4th Floor ~ Have the BRD MNK MNK WAR and RDM pull back All 4 Ramparts and the Chariot when the THF sacks. You pull these mobs back to the zone. Use the MNKs 2 HOURs ( 1 at a time ) to Own the Chariot Quickly while the RDM BRD and BLM Keep the ramparts Slept. If your THF is good he should be able to make it back to you without dieing because u can lose aggro rather easily with fantatic drink and Hermes and flee. After the ramparts and teh chariot are Dead Everyone heads to CC. THe THF pulls back to the party In the hallway or the room in the corner depending on how cocky your group is. Then the THF heads to the zone aggro the gear train along the way which should give you more then enough time to own CC. THF dies @ the zone RR and zones as Soon as CC is dead. Time at the point will be anywhere from 15-20 min's left.

    Hope that helps.

Its doable with 5 people and it doesn't require fife or G horn. Hammerblow's room cells are static so even if you get unlucky on the other 5-9 fomor it doesn't change the final outcome.

Yeah, we have done all of SSR with 6, 7, 8 and 9 all without relic or Fife.

SSR and Bhaflau are the zones where bringing more people can generally speed things up instead of slowing things down.

I'd say its the only 2 zones actually. Bhaflau in particular have more cells then you know what to do with.

Well, Zhayolm is possible too I suppose, I've never tried.

6 people is perfect for ZR, you can get everyone fully unlocked without wasting time, the only thing you will end up being short is 1 magic or 1 ability cell.

SSR are BR definately can utilise more than 6 people but I've found AR and ZR it doesn't speed things up and can even slow the run down.

Compared to other zones SSR is by far the place where you have to put out the most damage ; In ZR you spend 1/2 of your time moving from room to room, killing 2 mobs in each and then moving which costs a lot of time, but you don't need a lot of firepower ; the MMJ on 3F are weaker than 1F mobs for instance. You can kill the 2 frogs NMs with 3 - mnk, thf, rdm etc.

Can do that in any zone with 6, point is that in AR and ZR taking more than 6 doesn't really allow you to do any more and can slow the run down.

This is by far one of the most elite things in Salvage I think you can do.

ALL NMs in Arrapago including Soulflayer or Bhoot and the 6f Qiqirns is another, but we do that consistently.

5+6 + Boss in Zhayolm is a pretty decent run.

3 (no drop ramparts) + boss in bhaflau is our best run. We only farm to 50% if no pop, we give up. If pop, then we farm it until the last pop around 10%.

But yeah, SSR 1234 + Boss is an amazing accomplishment. But we haven't done it yet. I think we mostly need a little bit more of 4f practice. One of the best ways to get enough time for boss is to have a Thief flee to the train before it crosses the middle so you can get it early. We haven't tried this yet but it's coming up soon. Maybe we'll pull it off then.

Skip the train. We do 1234+boss pretty much every run, and we never kill the train.

If you're waiting for the train to make it all the way back to you to kill it, you're definitely wasting time.

It occurs to me that you could get away with fighting the ramparts in the hall corner like you do CC if you have a designated decoy for the gear train. They stand where the train will always aggro them before they can link to the ramparts; gears come and kill them, then continue on their way. They reraise and move to the other side. Repeat until ramparts are gone; should only take 2-3 deaths...might be an option if you want to save the time spent on killing train or pulling ramparts back to start.

    Why would you wait for it to come back? Just ignore the train altogether <.<;

run up to ramp room, pull all 4 ramparts + chariot. Pull them back to start. Kill them, and by the time they're dead, the gear will have passed you and making their way to end teleport. Go up to the end corridor before CC, pull CC, kill.

Won't have to aggro train, won't have to kill train, and won't be bothered with it.

The problem with 4f Is there's 40 ways to do it and different groups seem to do different methods faster.

And I like killing the damn train! It takes three bloody minutes and it makes me moist.

Besides, I hate that crackhead nonsense of pulling CC in to corner or pulling ramparts back to start. THAT is a waste of god damn time!

This is what my group does, but we always need to wait for gears to pass us again so they don't link with Chariot. It's never a problem since we have so much time tho.

You have to wait for the train before you can kill it.
IF you take longer pulling the chariot/ramparts back to the start than it takes the train to get to you, that means the gears link to the ramparts.
Thus, it takes less time to pull them back to the start than it takes to wait for the train.

This is not counting the time it takes to kill the train.

On the other hand, we generally seem to finish off the last rampart at the same time the gear train is moving towards us from CC's room, so we have to wait/follow it back up before we can fight CC.

In the end, killing the train is safer/easier IMO (deaggroing ramparts and stuff can theoretically cause a problem), but pulling ramparts back to start is faster.

You don't have to wait for the train to kill it. When I used to kill the gear train I'd send the BRD or THF (mostly the BRD because THF had used Flee before for the 3F gears, since we never did that room) to flee over and aggro the train. Powder Boots were necessary and had to be used before porting up. This was also when I used to always bring 7-9 to SSR and have a BLM sleepga the train.

Now I just bring 5-6 max and just do the whole rampart back to the start thing. With only 2 DD's we're never able to kill the 4 Ramparts fast enough so that we are following the gears back. They normally get to the 2nd chest room before we are done. With 3 DD's we'll kill quick enough to follow the train back tho.

From doing both, yeah killing the train is safer and makes Chariot/CC easier (especially Chariot). Pulling the ramparts back to the start is just a lot quicker, and let's me 5-man SSR and clear it all.
