    Banned for life

    http://tech.msn.com/news/articlecnet.as ... &GT1=10138

What happened, according to court documents
An FBI investigation of a man named Wyndell Williams led agents to one of his online correspondents: a 35-year-old Pennsylvania resident named Daniel Voelker who briefly exposed the naked rear end of his 3-year-old daughter over a Webcam.

During a subsequent search of Voelker's home, the FBI claims to have found computer files containing child pornography. Voelker pleaded guilty to receiving material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor and was sentenced to 5 years and 11 months in prison.

What makes this case unique are two special conditions the judge imposed on him that would remain in effect until his death.

Specifically, one of the permanent conditions of supervised release is: "The defendant is prohibited from accessing any computer equipment or any 'online' computer service at any location, including employment or education. This includes, but is not limited to, any Internet service provider, bulletin board system, or any other public or private computer network." A second permanent condition bars him from possessing "sexually explicit" books, movies or video games.

I got a good chuckle from the prospect of a life long internet ban.

Think they are overturning the punishment though.

Because that's what the article says.

Just trying to figure out how they would actually enforce that lol. I mean I can see how they can do it at his house but other than that there's really no way they could.

thats a standard punishment for internet predators, hackers, etc. Use a flagging system on the criminal records so when businesses do background checks they'll see it.

That ban also prevents him from owning a cell phone.

He couldn't get gas at one of those automated filling stations.

He wouldn't be able to get satellite TV or digital cable, much less a Tivo.

Many cars these days comes with onboard computer equipment connected to networks.

The punishment is cruel because as time goes on just about every aspect of life will involves using a computer attached to a network. Only a matter of time before our toasters get online. Good luck getting a job that doesn't require a computer at all..

This is the modern day version of cutting off the hand of a thief but worse actually.

The verdict was overturned by another court according to the article. It's good to hear that since the original punishment was just too severe in this case.
