lol, i got fined two months ago for changing lane without blinking, even though it was friday midnight and there wasn't one single car within 2 miles radius somewhere suburb delaware, except the cop car tailing me 50 yards behind. he also wrote me a ticket for speeding 55 miles in a 50mile zone. i was told i got off easy with a $130ish fine, and i asked him to fuck himself, inaudibly.

It's probably one of the most common and least cared about traffic violations, a cop's usually not gonna pull you over for it unless he's trying to make a ticket quota, or he's a dick.

The only time signaling matters is in traffic or if you're making a turn on a road with no turning lane (like in the OP's case). If you're just turning on a mostly open road and not effecting anyone directly nearby nobody cares.

The way you described/diagram'd it it's pretty much 100% your fault, you changed lanes in front of someone and hit them, simple as that. You should have seen the cyclist and waited for him to pass, if you didn't see him you weren't looking carefully enough, probably annoyed being stuck behind the guy making a left, but that doesn't matter at all. It's not the cyclist's responsibility to anticipate you pulling in front of him from a dead stop, you don't half-way change lanes and sit there expecting people to swerve around you.

The way he described it, it looks more like the bikers fault.

It really depends on his account of the timing... If he was really over in the next lane for 30 seconds before the biker hit him, it's not his fault. If it was more like 5 seconds, it is his fault. From his point of of view it's like the biker drove into a parked car. Again this is taking what he said at face value. He could be exaggerating the timing, who knows.

just reading through thread but this would still make you at fault as an officer can write you for not having control of your vehicle, reckless driving, and a few other retarded things as well.

Counts in Ice too. If you are 50~ ft away from a stop sign and the road is completely icy, and you drive extremely slow (say 5mph) so that you don't slide through the stop into the cross street, you can be written for not having control of your vehicle even if noone is behind you or around.

I reread it, was a bit mislead at first, I still think it's mostly his fault though, he was tailgating the guy and swerved when he had to brake, sticking out into another lane, had he left enough room he wouldn't have had to brake so hard and swerve, obstructing traffic in the right lane. You're not supposed to stick out into the lane you want to be in, you either have room and make the turn or you don't.

Though the cyclist does seem pretty lame if he just ran right into a car sitting there it doesn't matter much as Seno made the first wrong, which lead to the accident.

Went into the right turn yield lane, had to stop but straightening my wheel out caused my right blinker to turn off. When traffic cleared I went to the far left lane and was immediately pulled over. He asked me what I did wrong, and I told him I did a double lane change. He said, no, you failed to signal the turn. After telling him that I HAD the signal on but I didn't know I had to leave it on, when I technically was already turned, he gave me a ticket. I went to court and had to plead guilty to get out of paying for it as long as I didn't get another in a year. Then the prosecutor fucked up and didn't tell me about court fees and I didn't have to pay those either, the judge looked pissed at her.

Nice lol, I have to pay something like 125$ for this ticket, even the smallest violation is upper 80s. I already used my get out of jail free card by going to defensive driving school for my last ticket, can only do that once every two years in AZ.

However, the damn thing NEVER changes to a green arrow (once we waited 10 min and gave up). I don't know why, but can I make the left turn while on red arrow even if there is no sign saying NOT TO turn on red???
