5 Shield and 2 VIT which is more then Buck AND Merc combined is fail? WOW ok sure you go with that logic.
As for Bushi I've used Fowling up till now on my off ear (Brutal in other) which is about 1 less STR and roughly 2 less ACC, not nearly as ball breaking as not having 5 Shield skill from Knightly.

Unless you're supporting an Aegis, I don't see the point of shield skill beyond merits and af1+1 feet.

Xavier would probably know this better, but I think you're probably better off using etheral and cassie earrings on HNMs on pld. Especially when you're fighting hard hitting mobs like Tiamat, which can drop you very quickly. Not to say knightly is a bad earring or anything because it's not, especially since the shield patch. But most ppl have so many jobs now and can make more use out of the other earrings.

My point is, if you gear for shield skill, get a Buckler. If for some strange reason you are doing anything this side of Faust while subbing WAR and want to gear for VIT, get a Mercenary's. There are about a dozen or so earrings I would use over Knight's right now (I go with Ethereal and Loquacious atm.) Show me a Suppa -1 on the AH and I can see choosing any of the others for job-specific needs. But if you have multiple jobs, or are unsure of what you want, there's one obvious choice.

I chose Knight's because I was lucky enough to leech DM when I was a n00b 70 PLD. The Knight's served me well for a long time, actually, until I got access to Boxer's etc. Not to mention, PLD was the only job I had leveled, I never merited /nin even after I hit 75. I didn't have Ethereal obviously, I couldn't afford a Cassie, so once I hit 72, I was wearing Knight's with a HP+ earring. I came with the last of the old area PLDs, hitting 75 just around the time the expansion was released. I was VIT-whoring it up right up until my very last party, and even then, we went for trolls in Mount Zayhlom, because that's the kind of exp we were used to. (Not to mention the Mire was PACKED with ZOMGSQUISHYMOBS! people)

A year later, I got a decently okay DD /nin setup, Justice/Joy, Boxer's, Koenig Head, +1 AF feet and merits, enough to pimp out my shield skill without the help of Knight's, and I'm also leveling NIN to 75 (a job I hated a year ago). Not to mention, WHEN I merit I merit PLD/NIN. I'm gonna switch to Suppa once light ore prices calm down a bit, but I still don't see anything wrong with picking Knight's at the time, because it served me well back then, and even if they'd never allowed this switch, I still would've been happy with Knight's, and just worn a lolCassie with my Ethereal, in the situations when the Knight's is too big of a waste. Plus, 323 shield skill? That's a ridiculous amount of useless e-peen. ^^

Second point, why would you wear fast cast earring full time? Let's ignore the small bonus it gives that in a lot of people's mind's is marginal at best and not worth it. That aside why would you wear if all the time? You only need it while casting, and your not casting 100% of the time. My bad on the misspell there I got the names confused, whoops.

2 VIT is useless endgame and 5 shield skill is marginal at best. Although that 5 divine skill sure would help my Flashes.

Second point, why would you wear fast cast earring full time?

1. On PLD/NIN most of what you should be doing is Utsu/Flash. That means Haste and Fast Cast gear.
2. I've burned most of my gil on THF gear and can't swing a Hades+1 at the moment.

My only point is, this is Advanced Discussion, I'm not talking about exping 70-74. I've done stuff on PLD/NIN for long enough to see diminishing returns on shield skill. But go forth and get a Knight's. See you back in La'Loff in a couple months. Yo.

vit is fucking useless and knight's earring has an entire 2 shield skill over something buyable. divine magic skill? I have it capped on my WHM and I still don't know what the fuck it's supposed to be doing.

suppanomimi is the best DD earring in the game for jobs that can benefit from it.

The shield skill is sure, only 2 but hey that's 2 more then you had before, also 2 is a lot when comparing to a earring that only gives 3. VIT while not the best is still nice. The point is it's the best you can get for that add to shield, it's like Sattva ring, not needed but it's that little extra + it's a HQ Buckler Earring.

knight's earring v suppanomimi is effectively 5 shield skill and 100k v. 3 shield skill and an absolutely amazing DD earring. VIT isn't "nice", it's useless. and from what I understand, shield skill beyond 300 hits quickly diminishing returns.
