Except you're not comparing 3 shield skill to 5 shield skill, you're comparing 325 to 327 - a difference so nominal and insignificant that in the long run blah blah blah you're wrong. Show us yer boobs or kindly leave.

This is all from an active level 75 endgamer's view though. I won't berate any young PLD for picking Knight's Earring, because not everyone gets to sea/Apocalypse Nigh/etc. I do, however, believe that they - like me - might change their opinions later on. Fortunately for us, changing our minds is no longer a huge deal.

Well, yeah. I can understand why someone picked the earring 2-3 years ago, esp. if their only 75 job was PLD. I can't understand someone dropping their current earring and choosing to request a Knight's Earring.

Sadly it's still the most beneficial earring for my jobs until I level a DD job though. I just macro it into Utsusemi or PLD/WAR ;/

Which earring would you use on PLD aside from Ethereal? I've seen some PLD's fulltime Suppa/Ethereal, but I'm at a loss if there's anything else. Possibly Hades Earring if your busting out Enmity?

I'm a cheapass who can't afford a Hades due to other priorities, so once I get my Suppa, I'll just be using my Cassie for most tanking situations. Merman's for JoL/meritpt. Loquacious when I get that, for /nin tanking purposes.

Oh, and i agree, changing TO a Knight's... it would have to be some pretty friggin' special circumstances for that.

you're highly underestimating the number of people who leveled some of the 12 *other* jobs that don't need a suppa in addition to their blackmage or samurai and *didn't* level one of the four that really do.

suppa is an amazing earring, it really is. if you don't have a 75 job that routinely comes /nin and actually dual-wields. then all it really is is "Hidden Effect: Storage -1"

I'm just glad I could get a Suppa for BLU. Even though my main is BLM, there are better earrings out there for it.

The idea to change to a Knight isn't that dumb if the person knows what he is doing and knows he won't regret it.

Honestly, it's the best earring a PLD who only cares about tanking can pick out of the 5. If he knows how good Suppa is in exp for PLD, but still doesn't care, then he isn't "stupid" for picking Knight's.

I compare it to my picking of Abyssal. Even way back then when I picked it, I knew if I ever leveled NIN or /NIN job, Suppa would have been the better earring to pick. But you know? I don't give a crap, because BLM is the job for me. If I ever did level a job that relied on Dual Wield(even NIN itself), I couldn't care less, because I'd rather have a Drain/Aspir macro earring than do better DoT on a job I'm probably just leveling to get Maat's Cap(lol, yeah right) or for even worse reason, like getting a full spell-list. And I rather level PUP and MNK before any job that uses Dual Wield.

Knight's + Ethereal is a better combo than Buckler + Ethereal. If a person only cares about tanking(and doesn't go back on his thoughts), it's not so insane after all.

BRP is wrong and this is the correct answer. Post CoP there are better shield skill pieces of gear in better slot than Knights earring. Also rememebr pre CoP it was pretty hard/annoying to cap shield skill so every little bit helped.

I cant think of a situation where I would use a Knights earring to be honest, but to each his own. I agree with Xav on the shield skill, I hit 300 skill on my pld w/o using a buckler earring or knights, and having 0 shield merits.

Bingo. If you don't get this then you've missed the point. Even if the earring becomes entirely situational after better options open up, it's still the best earring for a PLD who only cares about tanking can get from Divine Might. If he understands that he probably won't be using it a lot and knows he still won't regret it(screwing himself over in exp), then there is nothing exactly stupid about his choice. The discussion of using an earring with shield skill is dumb or not is entirely different, an argument I'm not trying to make.

different posts but yeah, i didn't think twice about downgrading from knights > buckler earring even as a aegis owner, that 2 shield skill is hardly going to make or break my ability to reach capped blocks with aegis.

don't get me wrong i loved my knight's earring 3 years ago when i picked it before they changed shield shit... but now it's just fucking worthless even with koenig shield you can reach shield cap by 310 skill or so. and if you can't reach 310 skill with the gear available now... maybe you should put off tanking the big mobs.

when I was on my first job, MNK, I never had any intention of playing NIN. I chose Suppa anyway, and now I have 2 jobs that can use it. Should I have picked Bushi? It's borderline useless for what I was doing, but it was less useless than anything else.
