On the Subject of RvB, I know a SAM can 2hr solo the boss, but I was wondering if 2 BLUs could zerg him down?
Ya same... lolOriginally Posted by Almalexia
Not sure, but I doubt you could considering you have about 9 Immortals on you.Originally Posted by Kaslo
To be honest, I don't see why you would want to zerg it with 2 BLU's when you could have 1 BLU kite the immortals and the other BLU soloing the leader... Would make it much easier then just both zerging him.

We just take 4 (1500ap each), it's easily duoed.
there's an even easier way of doing this... though we've tested this only twice as 3-man and got 1,666 each (without armband) with no deaths from the red team. if your linkshell is into salvage, it doesn't hurt share some assault points. our setup was:Originally Posted by Uzor
rdm/thf (i think it was /thf and/or powder boots-can't remember)
blu/nin
sam/nin
1. sam meditates and goes with blu to the boss area (don't stand in the spawn location)
2. after recast for meditate is ready or close to ready, rdm talks to the hume npc and immediately runs to sam+blu area
3. rdm pulls the blue team surrounding the boss away and flees
4. blu pulls the boss from the group and zergs it (disseverment, hysteric barrage, frenetic rip, head butt spam) with the sam, not using 2hr
5. win
Yeah, we do it in a similar way nowadays. And yes, we do salvage. 4 times a week with a few solo runs in-between.Originally Posted by algrensan
MNK DRK RDM works. RDM pops, flees to the boss, diagas them. MNK pull with chi blast. Boss dies within a minute without any of your NPC's dieing.
Any DD DD kiter combination works, really.
We ran out of time on Desperately Seeking Cephalopods twice today before we figured out exactly what to do. Here is a detailed walkthrough for what worked for us using the dialog file entries as a guide. There are 4 fisher NPCs who each have 7 lines of dialog. They always have the same dialog at the start of the mission (depending on the NPC):
After you fish some and kill a few monsters (seemed like 5-6 monsters but could have been a specific trigger monster or something), 3 of the 4 NPCs dialog will change to the following:Whaddaya want? Can't ya see I'm busy here?
Hey, hey! Can't you see somebody's already here?
Stand back. I wouldn't want you to scare away my paycheck.
Zshahda's busy.
While 1 of the 4 will change to the following:Damn... Nothin'...
I don't know... The 'pots should be biting like crazy...
Perhaps I made an error in reading the tides...
Zshahda's sad...
Fish near the 'happy' NPC for a bit, killing monsters you pull up. After a certain number of monsters (or triggered by killing the kraken?) that NPC's dialog will change again, indicating the location to fish for the orobon. For example,Heheheh... The sticks said today'd be my lucky day!
Woohoo! I knew this was the place!
Ah, I knew my calculations were correct.
Zshahda's happy!
There's 16 of those entries, 4 for each NPC, but they're all pretty self-explanatory so I'm not going to copy them all. Once you fish up the orobon, kill it and get the ahtapot as others have written. I got the killshot and had the ahtapot in my temporary inventory, for whatever that's worth. Hope this helps some groups do this, I personally hope to never do it again. If ye ask me, that inlet all the way to the north looks mighty keen. I ain't leavin' this hole, though.
I've been hearing splashing all about the area near Ulbuun. Might be a school of 'pots... Never know...
If you can stand the Qiqirn, there is a fine spot located a short distance to my right. I shall be staying right here, mind you.
Could you go fish directly at one of the 3 location? Almost certain we got it before the 3rd message when we won (we did kill the krakken tho).
You could probably end up at the right spot completely by accident. In one of our losses that actually happened to us, and we timed out while fighting orobon. There are more than 3 locations, though, I only posted those 3 above as example. Each NPC seems to have 4 orobon-instruction dialog, one "right here where I am" and three "over to my left, inlet to the north, by the starting NPC, etc" so there's anywhere from 5-10 actual locations it seems, depending on how much they overlap.Originally Posted by Kaylia
Oh, nvm that then. I was under the impression you listed every correct entry. Probably easier to just fish monsters and get the message
Yeah sorry for not being more clear on that. The first 3 sets of quotes is comprehensive, they'll all start out with the messages in the first quote, then they'll change so that 3 have lines from the 2nd quote and one has lines from the 3rd. For that 4th quotation though I just put in a few examples because I didn't want to make the entry too long.
Thanks Suiram, your little writeup was a big help in getting the win. All one would need to do to perfectly flesh things out would be to compile a list of all of the "final" messages and the locations they're referring to.
For Azure Ailments my group had pullers pulling stuff to the start so it made turning them in to the NPC real easy.
I only saw one post in the entire thread regarding the Operation Black Pearl mission. Has anyone's group had success with this mission so far? Care to share your party setup, strategy, experiencies, frustrations, joys?
We've tried twice. The problem for us was the bombs I think. They can cast some agas and Flares and it can easily make short work of you when you're in a panic. Our last attempt we managed to survive until the boss but we lost a player to the bombs and were overwhelmed.Originally Posted by Alexei
I think you need a good balance of aoe capable players but also people that can take care of the trolls mobs. I'm hoping for our next attempt we can get 2 BLM, 2 NIN, a WHM and a BRD (with Storm Fife). If needed, you could probably swap a BLM with a BLU and a NIN for another DD if you can't get that specific setup. A RDM in place of the WHM would probably work too.
Wound up doing Black Pearl last week with three black mages, a red mage, and two melees (doesn't matter which). One black mage can take down an entire group of bombs/wamouracampa/eruca, so I had a black mage at each tunnel. We shifted around a bit because they were all coming from one tunnel for the longest time, but a black mage or two makes this infinitely easier. The melees are there to fight the trolls; we found BLM damage on the trolls somewhat ineffectual, and the other mobs don't stop coming just because there are trolls there. The dark knight "boss" wasn't very hard, either.
Crappy points with 6, can't imagine it with less than 4 people (two black mages a refresher/healer and a DD). ???Box'd.
Bit late here, but has anyone noticed a change in RvB? Our group is BST BST BST SMN BLU for the most part, and the 2nd time we did this Assault we nailed down our strategy.
Essentially the SMN sticks with the NPCs, and the rest of us head up to where Raubahn pops. Once I am ready at Raubahn's area, the SMN pops the mobs. I put Carrie on Raubahn. Now, the first 4-5 times we did this assault what would happen is this... the Immortals would run at me as soon as they popped, but as soon as Carrie hit Raubahn (before anything hit me) they would shift hate to Carrie.
At this point i would run back to just below the ledge where the rest of the PT (BST BST BLU) were waiting. 6-9 Immortals make short work of Carrie... but... when Carrie died the ONLY mob coming at me was Raubahn. The others simiply wandered back to pop. BLU would basically tear Raubahn down, with some help from myself, now petless, and the other two BSTs all tossing Cures as needed.
This was foolproof, and we were able to kill Raubahn well before even a single NPC was in any danger back with our SMN.
Now, last week we tried this plan, and it just doesn't work. SMN pops, i put pet on Raubahn, but the BLUs ignore it and come after me. So... w/e I died, and as long as the others pull Raubahn before i die, the Immortals will lose aggro and return to spawn point.
Has anyone noticed this small change in their behavior? I am 99% sure (couple more runs will make it 100%) that it isn't an aggro or range issue as I have stood in the exact same spot to put Carrie on Raubahn every time and this was the first that the Immortals were able to touch me.
Sorry for the necro, but my group is going back and tackling a few of the old Assaults to try and get Captain Rank. We're planning on going in with rods & lures, but do the rods break on this one? And does the lure go away when the mob grabs your line? Would it do any good to go in with extra rods & lures, or are we good with one each?Originally Posted by Missnasty
Fishing up monsters does not ever break your rod (that I have seen), inside this Assault or out of it. Lures will only be lost in case of a line snap (which shouldn't happen, unless maybe you pull it up when it still has a bunch of HP left) or rod break.
