    Wanted: Magazine suggestions

I have been taking a dump magazineless for months now. In desperation, I sometimes resort to reading grocery store ads that I receive in the mail. I used to subscribe to FHM and liked it. Now that they are no longer sold in the US, I want a new mag for the crapper. Not only did FHM have hot chicks but the articles were actually pretty decent.

    Any suggestions?

(Ya, I know obvious choice is Maxim. I used to get Maxim years ago and it wasn't a good read. Maybe that has changed?)

    Heavy Metal

Pretty good arts compilation monthly mag. I used to get free monthly copies when I printed them. (first job ever, working in a printery, it sucked aside from getting free mags. 80% of wich was porn... of all kind. Not as appealing as it sounds.)

Can some of you elaborate on your suggestions? I haven't heard of many of them and would like your perspective as a reader. What kind of mag is it, why do you like it, etc?

As for GQ, I used to subscribe to that years ago too. I did not renew. For one, like 90% of it is ads. When you could find an article, most were not too interesting. It was kind of stuffy (and a little pretentious) for my tastes.

Since I will usually be on the crapper when reading, I kinda want something that will keep me entertained for the short time I am there. A lot of short articles and columns would be great. (Hot chicks to ogle are good too.) I kinda want the writing to be witty and light. Don't want to really do a lot of heavy thinking while I'm on the throne, IYKWIM.

    Re: Wanted: Magazine suggestions

I'm honestly surprised not one person here has suggested Playboy. You can almost always find an incredible deal for a 1 or 2 year subscription. I think my last subscription I got 2 years for $21, plus a free DVD of naked college girls rubbing up on one another. So yeah, less than a buck an issue. I know it's cliche to say this, but I honestly do read Playboy for the articles. Playboy Advisor is always a winner, they usually have great interviews (this year they had Matt Groening, Simon Cowell, Bill Maher, Ludacris, Kanye West, and other goodies), video game reviews, book and album reviews, recipes for cocktails, a joke section, political forum, a section on cool new gadgets, etc. I read this religiously on the throne. And yeah, the girls aren't bad to look at either. 8)

p.s. If you're concerned about privacy and don't like to let the US(or Canadian) postal service know you subscribe to Playboy, no worries. Every issue comes wrapped in black plastic, so it's pretty discreet. Although, it doesn't take a wizard to figure out by looking at the return address where the magazine came from.

i subscribe to wired because it's a great mag to keep myself informed with the latest technology, gadgets, hippest geek topics. i just can't get enough of them. also you're right that 90% of GQ are ads, i get it just to keep my fashion sense in checked because attire is important in my field (dress to impress XD) national geographic is of personal interest.

    Thanks for the elaboration.

When you think about it, GQ is a short read. Certainly not enough content to last you 3 months til the next issue.

BTW, I found out that I can still get FHM in the US. It would be the FHM UK issue but they do deliver to the US now that the US publication is discontinued. I think I will subscribe to that. I do plan on buying an issue or two of some of your suggestions.

I usually have issues of GQ, SportCompactCar, and older copies of The Atlantic. I'll sometimes pick up an Esquire, Harpers, Newsweek, Adbusters, Wired, or New Yorker if I see something interesting at the newsstand.

The Week is an awesome shitting magazine. It's the worlds weekly news and op-eds from all sides of the spectrum fit into one easy-to-digest 47 page magazine.

It's small and fits all the important stuff it needs without the trite shit and too many ads. Excellent magazine to keep you in the know for world events.

Mags I used to get were EGM, EuroTuner, and European Car.

EGM - Well I should hope you know what that mag is all about.

EuroTuner - Strictly euro car content. Published by the same company as European Car and compliments it well. They spotlight on the tuning aspect of euros and shows etc etc. Main cars they review are VW, Audi, BMW and the occasional Porsche, Mini, and other 'lesser known' euros.

European Car - This is the 'expensive' version of Tuner. They spotlight new cars and don't really go into tuning details, almost like a euro Motor Trend. Think along the lines of BMW M6, Porsche, Ferrari, new Audis, etc etc. They do alot of articles as well as compare cars etc etc.

Not sure if this is what your looking for, but if you drive/love euros you can't go wrong with one of the euro car mags.

    Re: Wanted: Magazine suggestions

Wellll if you want more in depth descriptions of my magazines I SUPPOSE.

EGM = Gaming and just gaming

Gameinformer = Gaming and just gaming

Massive = MMORPG's and stories on upcoming ones.

Alternative Press = Good magazine if you like the bands I like. Has a crapload of scene bands but also uses that to make complete fun of them. Great Interviews and even better band bios
