i need to work on my resistances though sorc crafting magic stuff with the crushed gem recipe is making me go broke >.> damn perfect gems costing 400k

i did manage to find an etheral occy though which playing solo is so friggan rare... i love it lol

Resist are easy to get Dstoning good, low level uniques. On a sorc you could just get the unique Tower Shield, which is level 19, pops with 2 sockets and has a +1 to all skills on it, and just Dstone a shitload of resist all on it, and if that's still not enough, stick two Pdiamonds on it. That alone should take care of all the resist you need for a long time, using only one slot on your gear (I had like +120 res all or something like that on my sorc's shield at one point). If you have a lot of jewels saved up from farming, you could try using Secret Recipe 30 to get a Nexus Star instead of using Pdiamonds

wtf too, my merc is in pretty good gear and yet he still gets his face ripped off...

and wtf... i have +37 lightning skills max res and 75% dr with 1450 hp and i STILL can't solo players 8 nm nihl (matter of fact i didnt' even reach him... his subboss with the volcano aura stunlocked and raped me before i could get away....)

i need to get the armor and weapon 50th secret scrolls too >< WHY does an ilvl 90 ancient scroll spawn into a 2nd level secret scroll... IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE!

this mod makes me happy and sad at the same time ; ;

*edit* on my happy side right now... just found a white vortex orb and i cubed it and it spawned +9 lower res +27 all res +40 fire res :O

wolf druid with all their attack bonus' and attack speed bonus' with a buriza equipped does about 8 hits per second, give him some hp drain gear and he's absolutely unstoppable. When i played seriously i had it equipped with a 200% buriza, an 8/8 gaze and some gloves i made that were 3/3 mana/hp steal and any other dueling gear, and i'd never lose, and could beat the game at level 42 or whatever level you can equip the buriza and the gaze.

I think it's the setup I had on my druid, assuming Buriza was the overpowered crossbow I found. I never tried to aim for godly setup, but when I realized I could shape shift with crossbow, I realized how broken it was. Only part that ever gave me trouble after was the 3 barbarian in hell. The thunder enchant one was just a bitch....

Actually, you can't even use an editor because the character and item files in ES aren't compatible with the character/item files in standard D2, so you'd have to build an editor just for ES from the ground up (which, like you said, takes all the fun out of it anyway). There's no way to get ethereals easily unfortunatly, since they're basically the strongest weapons and armor in the game. Best bet you'll have is stick a bunch of negative magic find on your character(I think some charms do that) and just farm white items till the ethereal you want pops

Barb mercs can live in most places, but pretty much every other merc takes a lot of gear to survive in hell. Usually stacking a lot of life, damage reduction and a shitload of life-steal does the trick

Nihlathak is the hardest place in the game basically. If you're dying too much you probably need to get either more life or get your resists higher (there's a few ways to go up to 95%, sometimes 75 isn't enough). But yeah after that it's mostly a max life thing, Battle Orders from A5 mercenaries(or Oskills on like a weapon switch or something) helps a ton

yea i'm gonna make a call to arms crystal sword or somethin eventually but getting LOD runewords sucks lol

i managed to find an ethereal dragon scale so i just went ahead and eternal reigned that right away(lol). i need to make a goldfind gearset for my sorc in the worst way cause getting my level 75 class amulet and ring is gonna be impossible without gambling ><

i'm curious though, how are people getting 3 different colored odd charms (some that have 3 sockets) and those 3 square charms. i've read the recipes list but it's so damn confusing... you know what i'm talking about?

yeah, it's just a bunch of cube recipes

For the normal charm, you do recipe 26 (16 Dragon Stones + 16 P.Gems) and make a maple leaf, then do recipe 49, 7 Rare Charms + 1 Elixir + a Maple Leaf and you get a blank, white odd charm with 1 socket. You can add a P.gem and a Socket Donut to add a second and then a third socket to it, and then put whatever you want inside it. Usually people put 3 jewels with +1 to all skills and +1 to a skill tab. The point of makin em is that white charms are the only ones that can get more than 1 socket

Other than that, Square/Odd charms are just regular Small/Grand charms with a socket. After you add a socket on them, they change into the newer version that takes more space (because of the socket, to balance things out). The only exception is the unique odd charm, which just drops and you don't have to cube or anything

It's been ages since I played diablo 2, though I never played online to begin with.

thinking of starting up another offline game though. Shame I sucked at it way back when. Used to use this hax/mod that made the horadric cube freaking huge.

While I don't know the extent at which that mod has changed things, I remember vanilla LoD having a Damage Reduction cap of 50%. Whether or not that's playing into your difficulties I couldn't say. Meanwhile, Corpse Explosion was a conglomeration of Fire and Physical damage based on the corpse's HP, and I do believe this scales up with difficulty. So, if his surrounding minions have something like 50k HP, expect a world of hurt paired with the fact CE's radius is typically upped with more levels. If it's at all possible, try to shatter corpses with ice damage on kills, lead them away from Nihlathak himself, or have your own means of using a corpse like Find Item, Corpse Explosion, Death Trap, Redemption Aura, and whatever else I may be forgetting from my aged days of playing and modding.

Something else to keep in mind is that if you're running, defense is reduced to zero and shield blocks are cut to like 1/4. Modders can change this behavior, but it's one of those annoying facets of LoD that made making a tank character a lost cause since killing things before they could kill you usually wound up winning the day over. I know Volcano triggering stunlock animation can be a pain in the ass, too.

my sorc is 94 now and i still wouldn't run him in nm on players 8 without precaution. i won't even go near his domain in hell on players 1, not yet anyways

The mod I'm playing right now uses all of that, but it also makes a ton of other changes to the game

If you want just a bigger stash/cube/inventory by itself without any other changes to regular D2, you could probably find a mod or a plugin somewhere in Phrozen Keep that will do it, but you'd have to look for it.
