A little late, but in light of the argument that RMT saves valuable time, wouldn't that mean that parents who spend hundreds of dollars on gil are thereby opening up time to spend with their kid?!Originally Posted by Dense

No, it means they spend hundreds of dollars on gil to keep their kid busy so they can do stuff they want to do and not worry about being a parent and teaching things like responsibility and respecting others.Originally Posted by Khamsin
But not spending money on gil for their kid would make them spend more time in the game, by requiring them to farm. It's one of those rare instances where not spending money keeps the kids occupied the longest. What parents wouldn't take advantage of that?Originally Posted by klvino
I see your point, but you also have to consider the situation where the child is whining to his or her parent about purchasing the gil. Some parents probably find it easier to just give in and buy it rather than fight the kid over it.
And hey, lets be honest with ourselves - that kid is probably gonna spend the next year or more playing his online game either way, right?

Works both ways.
The $ came before the £ (in Vana'diel).
Next month's ban list will be interesting....
Anyone else notice that they said the plan to take action against groups that use illegal means to claim NM and not individuals?
could this mean they may ban/suspend people in the same alliance as a bot? I could see banning the bot and suspending the alliance members, this could lead to linkshells who have members bot to either have them stop or kick them from the shell?
Of course this all assumes SE can detect botting >.>
i highly doubt that. if a shell picks up a new member and they're botting with the shell not even aware (let's say it's a crappy bot and it doesn't get noticed by the shell for a while) the whole shell would be punished. you could even intentionally do this with a throwaway char you inherited from someone else. i think they're targeting exclusively CGF and individuals botting stuff, but that's just my opinion. it would be too easy to exploit the system you propose to poison another LS and get half of them suspended for something they weren't even aware of.Originally Posted by Kaslo

Not that I do HNMs anymore, but I had an interesting conversation with a leader of a HNMLS on my server (whom claims to have GM friends). I was told that he was basically asked to turn over the names of the people that are being asked to bot/known to bot in his LS. The GMs were basically offering not to ban him when they banned the other members of his LS that 'benefit from botting' in exchange for the information.
To me that says 2 things. First, they either don't have a way to detect who's botting or they're after proof that the botting is officially LS sanctioned. Second, they don't have to be able to be able to detect it, just need to scare someone into revealing the names of the bots.

Hey I said it was 2nd hand info..
I've actually talked to GMs directly about this sort of thing too. They were pretty frustrated that either the new members of a HNMLS or secondary accounts were used to bot, so even if they managed to catch someone botting they could only get a small fish. On a few different occasions they directly expressed that they want the ability to go after the leadership of a LS for the actions of it's members.
I honestly think that they're trying to get the evidence that a particular botter is doing it at the request of their LS. Although I can see something along the lines of a good cop/bad cop thing going on in GM jail.

Botter: I'm fine, thanks... what's up?
[GM]Guy: We've detected some suspicious activity from you in the area known as Dragon's Aery. Plus, we've received reports that you use third party tools to ignore delay restrictions on claiming. Is this true?
Botter: I don't know what you're talking about! Besides, everyone bots, why single me out? I haven't done anything wrong!
[GM]Guy: Everyone? What are the names of these other people?
Botter: Well, let's see...
*later that evening*
Botter: Hey man, this GM today asked me to turn over all the names of botters I know!
Tordall: Jesus, can't they detect that on their own?
Nah, Lulu's probably right.
I'm from Alexander server and we thrive on drama. Just trying to get some going, it's been too boring lately.
I'ld really like them to publish the names of the characters that get banned each month so we get a week's worth of entertainment making fun of those people instead of speculating who's banned and who's not banned.
now you're talking, but you need to think bigger! add a zone to jeuno where all the suspended players are stuck in stocks and we can throw useless stuff at them like mithran tomatoes, eggplants, and drg at them!Originally Posted by Tordall
for the banned players, give them all a shot at reprieve too. drop them all in an arena with jorgy and say "you have 90 minutes. kill or be killed." meanwhile we're all watching on from the sidelines cheering jorgy on as it kills all the botters that have been ruining kings.
i like the way your thinking here... but i think jorgy is a bit weak for what your thinking... how about we make it DL and give them no warning... then we get to watch the oblivion smashes fly. and while they are at it, they should make it so that all of them have permanent reraise on... and automatically accept it when they die... that way DL can repeatedly slaughter them for the full 90 minutes.Originally Posted by Spekkio
I still like the idea of unleashing en-delevel chigoes on them. Maybe put them in a maze filled with said chigoes and allow them their freedom if they find their way out.
Instead of getting disease or plague on hit, every hit from a chigoe = Level Down animation and sound.
Then, when they finally make it out (at level 1), allow them to start levelling again, watch their connections, then ban them the following month.
wow. this stuff is good. should have its own thread. another option: random teams of ballista. winner goes on, loser gets banned. FIGHT!
Don't forget to strip them of all rare/ex & epeen gear they got thanks to botting or LS funds first.
