    FFXI and dual core processor

I recently bought a new processor for my computer (basically upgraded the whole comp) it's a 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with dual core support. I got everything ready and laoded up ffxi and notice A LOT more lag than usual. Contacted the service and support guyz and they told me that FFXI does not support dual core processors. Well i spent 80$ on it, and my main game is FFXI but i play WoW too. The processor runs excellent on WoW, but i really want it to work well for FFXI. The service and support guy told me to look around the interweb to see whta other players have done to make their ffxi work with dual core. So, is there any kind of software that might help me and my ffxi dilema ): (Ive set affinity to only use 1 processor but it still fails) thanks.

ah i use i use this

    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6819116027

the lag only occurs on MOST monsters. Goblins / bees = no lag but mobslike gigantobugard and dhalmels = fps below 10.

If that is indeed the CPU you're using, it's not dual core. In fact, socket 478 doesn't even appear to be able to support dual core.

    its hyperthreading

first: is your motherboard bios updated all the way
second: is your chipset updated all the way
third: this belongs in the tech support section, moving

Re: FFXI and dual core processor

Hyperthreading is Intel's technology that improves multithreading. It can improve system performance but it can also slow things down, especially games.
Your mobo manufacturer should have a bios update feature that you can run from Windows.
Don't want to explain what a chipset is, but you can find out which one you have by going to the Device Manager and looking under System devices. It'll probably be ALi, AMD, Intel, nVidia, SiS, or VIA somethingorother.

    ctrl+alt+del-> processes -> pol.exe -> set affinity -> uncheck cpu0.

    See if that helps.

Re: FFXI and dual core processor

SIS PCI to ISA bridge.... chipset i guess... anyway i couldn't find the bios update that i can run from windows. Mobo model is a MS-6540

edit: you posted same time i did,

answer>> no ive already tried that with both cpu1 and 0 neither make a difference in FPS

2nd edit: found the live update thing, gonna try and update the bios from it...ill git back unless my computer explodes

edit3: i updated everything and it didn't fix the lag. I disabled hyperthreading which removed the 2nd CPU option in task manager and under device manager so i was excited that i infact fixed the problem, but failed. still lags...

So aside from bios update chipset update and hyperthreading what could cause my 3.0 intelpentium 4 processor to lag ffxi more than my 2.4 intel pentium 4 processor

Re: FFXI and dual core processor

If you can, I'd return it, and look into upgrading your motherboard if possible to accomodate an LGA 775 socket and processor. Those things are great, I tell you what.

bah it runs WoW perfect. has to be a logical reason why ffxi is bsing. was a 30day return policy got it alittle over a month ago. as for the motherboard, just upgraded from a 02 model (dont have the money to spend hundreds on pc crap =/)

Re: FFXI and dual core processor

try reinstalling ff11 then, also check if svchost is sucking a chunk of cpu power when you're running ff11. I have that problem with my laptop.

already reinstalled ffxi... wouldn't be the problem anyway considering ffxi runs fine with my other processor... as for the sucking up cpu power, wouldn't be the problem since my other processor runs fine and the new one has more w/e on it =/

I'll tell you something that cost me a job a bit back.

Computers are like woman, One day they're all happy and running fine, the next day it's a complete 180.

Load up Final Fantasy 11 and check if anything is taking a higher chunk from the cpu other than FF, pref svchost.

Re: FFXI and dual core processor

    nothing

    edit:

my ffxi runs awesome... fps is at 30... the lag issue i have isn't a constant thing. It only becomes constant whenever i see a mob. It can be ONE SINGLE mob and my fps drops below 15 with my new processor. This problem doesn't occur with the old one i used.

    Example:

Inside the moghouse>> Facing door FPS: 29.9
Inside the moghouse>> Facing Moogle FPS: 14.3

    my motherboard

I have both processors infront of my face right now. I want to be able to use the bottom processor since i spent 80$ on it and it runs WoW just perfect so i dunno what's up with ffxi. Can someone compare the 2 and please tell me what's up.
Lag issue again>> Can sit in my moghouse facing door with 30fps, turn and face moogle fps drops to 15. it's like this with basically any other NPC / player for some reason. (certain mobs dont affect the fps but most do)

as far as the hyperthreading issue i disabled that function in BIOS and the lag still occurs.

If you're going to disable hyperthreading, just return the chip.
