Everybody keeps raping their pictures with bloom over and over again.

Stop it, its painful to look at, your screens BEFORE the bloom were better. If your not 100% sure of how to make your screens look good, then your doing it wrong. The tutorial wafik wrote is awesome but everyone keeps mashing the button way too hard, chill out on the image and eye rape your giving.

I hate bloom; it's the primary reason I turn off HDR lighting in PC games. It just seems so unrealistic for some reason. Why am I blinded by light every time I look outside, or when an object is underneath a light fixture?

That actually makes sense if you were in a dark place for a while. However, some games decide to do that even if you were in a nicely lit house.
