    Questions about resistance and KS99 wyrm.

    Just did the wyrm KS99 earlier and we got totally trashed when he went airbound. I tried to dig up as much fire resist gear as I could before the run, but could only end up at 65. So here are my following questions:

    Does MDB help?
    Does -magic damage taken help?
    What's a good base resistance before factoring in carol/bar for this BC?

    When I compared my damage taken to another PLD, we seem to take the same base damage (302) and I had magic damage taken -13% from merman ring x2 + resentment. So I figured -magic damage taken is bunk in helping with reducing any damage on airbound wyrms, but I would like to be sure. Also, since we made him take flight really fast (2 minutes roughly) is /RDM or /WHM viable for the time he is in the air? Or would I take too much damage after he relands for it to be effective?

    What are you wearing that is only giving you 65 fire resist? Negative fire resist gear? You should be getting more than that from Barfira alone.

    PLD/NIN, ended up with a grand total of 140ish resistance or something, maybe closer to 150. Our only BRD came as SMN, so carol was out of the question. I wasn't the event coordinator nor an orb holder, so my opinion on needing BRD for carol wasn't really taken heavily.

    I thought -magic damage taken had its merits, so I decided against buying ruby ring x2.

    I do have NIN75, but gear for it is less than stellar, so I don't bother with it.

    Other than that, I'm really interested in what's the normal resistance number in gears do our wyrm tankers here carry as a minimum.

    250-300 resists eats this wyrm for breakfast. Forget -magic dmg and just resist him to hell. Your only worry will be the damage taken by others from his AOE in the air.

    Or just have your rangers blow their loads while he's in the air and blms MB or free nuke the hell out of it in the air. Shouldnt fly more than a minute if not less if you're doing it right.

    For Tiamat and this KS99 I usually carry 144 in fire resist gear, still missing a few small things to get me to 179. Most hits are resisted and do about 36dmg when carol+barfire are on.

    I was the only tank that even remotely tried bringing resist gear... our 2 BRDs came as SMN and NIN(this one was useless, we had 4 tanks total). SMN was understandable... maybe, but NIN was kinda fodder.

    The problem with BLM free nuking after it took off was... they all died on pretty much the first flameblast he did (don't ask me how, I was locked on to the wyrm the whole time). Maybe it was how we positioned ourselves... but thanks for the info everyone.

    The only time I use "resist" gear is if I'm tanking NIN/DRK. If I go PLD/NIN I find it easier to just stack -20% Magic Damage taken and Add on Shell V to that. You can pretty much keep youself cured while anything is in the air. And with 2 PLD/NIN working together they can handle about anything.

    If you wanna go resist wise though 250-300 is the minimum you want for success.

    For this fight we just basicially have our (everyone but tanks) back off and blast it til it lands then hustle back to the feet. As long as no one gets behind it there isn't much danger. 1 good wave of nukes should bring it down anyways if you have strong BLM.

    300 seems to be the magic number to reach for me. I've played around a bit with the setup on Tiamat and anything less than that, although still very noticable for resists, is nowhere near as effective as 300+. There's a definate stairstep effect going on at 0-250, 250-300 or so, and 300+.

    Get it to 75% with melee/small nukes, start an SC, blow it to hell with MBs and it will fly. Free nuke and stun, and it will land, and shouldn't even get a flame blast off (but if it does, you can handle 1 even as blm). When it lands at this point (I think we had 5-6 blms, ymmv) it should be ~40%? Perhaps a little less, then just handle it normally, SC+MB again and it's dead.

    300 is the number to hit through gear, barspell and carol, for resistances vs. wyrms.

    This fight is easy though, even without overkill damage. Use a tank like NIN/DRK or PLD/NIN, have them establish strong hate and center a self-sufficient tank party, then have one or two /whm people in your other parties toss curaga after a flame blast and get stoneskins back up. We usually do it with 4-5 BLM, no Rangers and a few melee on ground, and have no problems. As long as people are quick with curaga after an AOE and mages take a break from nuking to get stoneskin back up, you should never be in any danger.

    For Ouryu, Tiamat etc, 300 is what you'd like. This aint very strong though, 300 is kinda overkill, prolly would want some more enmity in place of resists to make sure you hold hate. Anywhere around 250-275 will more than suffice and still make this a joke for the tank in the air.

    Sounds like you might need a new LS

    If the tank party needs a bard, and you have 4 tanks, why the hell would a Ninja go as Ninja when he can go bard?

    Likewise for SMN, no bards at all and he went SMN to Wyrn KS99? Thats someone's seals your playing with
