Windower distance?

I know that windower distance is a measurement of numbers but what does it measure based off of? CM MM inches or another unit?

edit: I'm just really confused on what the numbers are based off it (Yes i know your distance and target) But like whats the 1 , 2 , 3 mean? Or is there really no meaning and someone just made up their own measuring scheme?

I believe that the unit of measurement for length in FFXI is called a "yalm". The last Summerfest event talked about the distance of your partner to his/her correct ??? spot as "yalms".

I guess it would be close to a yard. The other distance measurement that I remember is malm, which I think would be their version of a mile. (Though I am not sure how many yalms are in a malm.)
