You can't really judge an entire nation to one "social level", especially in comparison to another nation(s). It's unlikely that there would be only one political platform/set of ideas shared among everyone in an entire nation. It becomes further divided among factions within these groups(example: extreme conservatism vs a middle-man). It becomes even more ridiculous when you consider the US has much more cultures than Japan does. You might be getting confused now, so let me back it up a bit. It was retarded the moment you compared the two(three) nations. Right now, I'm just going over just how stupid the comment was in all the ways I think of.

Moving on: I do not discount laws, but some people don't respect some laws as much as they would others. This being a prime example. Most people don't report offenders because they don't agree with it(Maybe they wouldn't be so surprised/against by the law with Japan). Yes, some people do get charged on this, but my point is if it was a big deal to Americans, the law would receive more respect... cases like the one mentioned wouldn't be so controversial.

Abortions, Death Penalty, and many other issues are so fiercely debated among two sides, that alone should be proof that you can't label an entire nation to one setting. I didn't think you were against America exactly just by the one statement. You kind of just proved it by getting off topic with more America bashing. You know, adults dating minors is a lot more common than many of you may think, provided of course, that many of you are Americans. Of course, I'm sure it's frowned upon by some of the members of those same societies that accept it, but it's still accepted by the majority. What strikes me is that the majority of Americans are so appalled/shocked by this kind of behavior, but are a very sexually active group of people. Of course, I can't label 100% of Americans like that; I speak about those I've come accross. I live in Miami, FL, if it means anything, so I guess the influx of ‘‘latin communities’’ might be to blame for all the lust/sexual activity (even though I doubt it). I don't know what the fuck is up with people who turn their heads and pretend it's not there, but it's there.

Of course, I wouldn't want my sister dating a much older man (even though she's an adult now), nor would I date an underage chick (American mindset, go!), but I could care less if some 22 year old dude wants to date a 15 year old girl, as long as her parents are aware. Shockingly, parental consent to these types of relationships are very common where I'm from (Brazil), and usually not regarded as a big deal. I'm sure it goes the same way in many other parts of the world.

Utah's one of those states! Even having an erection that can be seen through clothing is illegal here among other states, but yet, girls can and do get married at the age of 14 (to an uncle) in Utah.

And sex with a minors in Japan varies depending on prefecture. Most are 16-18, so it's not like it's common. I know in Tokyo, 17 is the legal limit.

Sodomy in legal terms actually includes homosexual sexual intercourse. While that can be generalized to be Anal Sex or Oral Sex, it is in fact a much broader term.
