What the hell is the difference between all the different blank DVD formats? There's DVD+R, -R, +-R/W....what do they all mean?

DVD-R/W is just a rewritable DVD.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD
Basically they refer to which brand of writer they'll work with, whether they're rewritable, dual or single layer, that kind of thing.
There's also a difference between DVD-R and DVD+R, and I believe it has to do with the Data Format and how it's encoded. But...I'm at work I apologize I can't look up more for you.
Don't mind Shuemue, he has anger issues. He pretty much snaps at everybody these days.Originally Posted by Shuemue

This is what I was actually referring to. I don't get the whole -/+ thing. I was just at Best Buy to pick some up, and wasn't sure if I was getting the right kind. But after reading some stuff online, I guess it doesn't really matter which kind I got.Originally Posted by Octavious
Anyway, one more question. I want to burn some DVDs now. How would I do this? Get an ISO image of a movie I want, mount it in daemon tools, and copy it to my DVD burner drive?
Shue, your rage is out of control right now.
THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS!
these days dvd r drives do both so unless you have a really old one, it shouldn't matter. Some people say +R are more reliable (less coasters) but i don't think i've actually burned a bad disc since the old days of uber cheap cdrs. but its probably because i learned my lesson and have bought good media since.
Well, I'm at work so i'll explain what you'd do but I can't link anything. If your looking to burn movies/games, you'll want to go for DVD+R, and if your looking for a specific burner, most likely you'll only find Dual Layer, which is what you want. Now to burn to them there's a few ways you can do it, here's how I do it. I only have a DVD+/-RW Dual Layer drive, single drive.Originally Posted by Hollaback
programs:
DVD Shrink
PowerISO
1) [DVD to DVD+R]
I) Put DVD Movie into DVD Drive
II) Using DVD Shrink, Create a Backup version of DVD in ISO Form, (Usually takes 35min for a normal movie IE: XMEN3)
III) Take DVD Out once the "Backup" ISO image has been made
IV) Load up Power ISO, select 'Drives' and choose 1
V) Select 'Mount Image' and choose your ISO File you just made
VI) Click 'Burn'
VII) It will burn the DVD+R and when it's done it should work on most DVD Players, I know my XBOX360 runs em too.
2) [ISO Downloads to DVD+r]
I)Pretty much start from step IV above.
edit: if you don't have DVD Shrink or Power ISO you can Torrent them easily. I didn't like Daemon Tools, i don't remember exactly why I stopped using it, but PowerISO has never let me down.
I second poweriso, its good.Originally Posted by Octavious

Yea, not bashing Daemon Tools, it's definitly decent. I just can't remember why the hell i stopped using it, now it's starting to bug me, lol. Damn my memory
Probably something to do with SafeDisk. Stupid copy protection.
Ok, the ISO image burned onto DVD just fine, except it has no sound, and I can't find any option in DVD Shrink to fix it. Did I miss something?
edit: nvm, it was a windows media player problem -_-.
Most fat ps2 only read DVD-R for playing "game backups"So it might be important to look that up if your doing that.
Nah, I"m pretty much just gonna be using it for movie purposes.
Does anyone know any sites to get ISO files? I'm not having much luck findin' torrents for them.
now its getting silly. go to torrent search sites and type 'iso' with the search terms.Originally Posted by Hollaback
i know how to use a torrent site -.- I just said there's not many results coming up for what I'm looking for. Didn't know if people got movie ISOs from somewhere else.
