Wirelss Mario Kart DS with Flash Device

Couple friends and I just picked up some DS's as well as some R4 flash devices and we can't seem to get the wireless to work for mario kart DS.. It works for all other games but this one, so I assume there's some sorta protection on there. I was just wondering if there's a work around for this?

and to those who have an R4, before you load the game, the R shoulder button seems to enable somethign but i can't figure out what. does anyone know what it does?

it changes the brightness of the screen.

Works just fine on my Supercard DS which came out well before R4 so i don't think it has protection.

that's the L shoulder button. the R activates a button that turns green, but i've yet to figure out what that does.

edit: i figured it out.. it enables and disables soft reset.
