Re: Router Issues - R0 (Port Forwarding Solution?)

The DLINK works beautifully. Amazing firmware (with FFXI among its many Games/Special Applications presets) and rock solid connection.

I couldn't recommend it more for FFXI and other games as well. I can now be playing FFXI, running AIM, and sitting on Facebook (not that I would ever do those things ) and not R0, which I could never do even on the old Netgear router.

Feel free to close this thread. Thanks again everyone especially Snowknight26 for turning me onto the DLINK.

A really good way to test if the router is rock solid is to run bittorrent for a couple days with a max connection limit of about 1000. Crappy routers (BEFSR41 seems to come to mind) die after about 30 minutes with over 20 connections.

Re: Router Issues - R0 (Port Forwarding Solution?)

I've had shitty luck with dlink and linksys. the dlink would drop the wireless connection about every hour after a while and the linksys one day started smelling like burnt sillicon so i gave up with those brands and have been using Netgear for years. I'm sure the other reccomendations are fine, but in computer world purchases, personal experience and predjudice are what makes the buy. If ya have bad luck with something move on to another brand. I've been using the same ol g router for 3-4 years almost and still works like a champ

    Jesus fucking christ..

Ya, if you have bad luck just randomly try something else. That is a wonderful idea. No, wait.. it isn't.

Seriously people.. learn to separate models from brands. The internal parts in many of the routers with different brands are actually identical

Unless you know someone who has the MODEL of router that you are looking into and plays ffxi without disconnects don't get it, period.

Devek, not everyone is smrt like us. Let them spend money off whims, it makes my day go by easier knowing they could have firmware upgraded or bought a different model.
