Had you had read the thread correctly, you would have realized that the guy admited it, so therefore it is no longer hearsay and rumor. Although I realize your years watching crime shows make you feel like you know the law, a confession is a confession and OMFG an admission of guilt.

As for SE owning the account, you are correct, however, you own the time and effort put into that account and/or item and deserve to be compensated. If I had that kind of money I would fuck with him continuously leaving him in debt for years to come, but of course I am spiteful like that.

Actually, knowing the Law a bit makes me feel like I know the Law a bit. Unfortunately for you, a post on a Internet Forum is not an admission to anything, it is merely rumor and hearsay. It is not usable as evidence or as an admission to guilt. Internet forum accounts can be compromized quite easily and even if you track the IP down and say it came from a certain computer, you do not know who posted from that computer. Therefore I repeat, all you have from this thread is rumor and hearsay, no evidence. For the same reason you want to sue, someone stealing passwords, you have no proof from a post in a thread on the internet. It's not admission, I'm sorry, there is no way to prove who wrote the post.

The only possible thing you could try to sue for would be the hacking or stealing of a password on the site and you wouldn't get shit for it. You may think your chars and the "$4000" worth of items is worth that much but in the real world it is worth jack shit and your items and accounts belong to SE and nobody gives a shit for your time spent and there is nothing that says you can or will be compensated for the time you spent in making imaginary gil or stats.

Please, keep trying to act like you know anything about the law.

Yes, it can be a flimsy case, but lawyers are expensive and can cost this guy a lot of money even if nothing comes of it.

As for posts on a forum being an admission of guilt, a couple years ago a guy posted on an internet forum he had killed someone or something, anyway he was arrested from that. I will have to find the case and give you the link later this afternoon. If it is not enough to establish guilt, it is enough to give pc is it not?

Yes, it is possible to use the post to get a warrent or arrest someone under the possibility of guilt to a crime through an internet post but you are going to need alot more evidence to have a case or even go to court. If the only evidence they have is this thread then the case will be thrown out before anyone spends any real money.

Really though, if the guy has so much money he needs to take someone to court over FFXI, he needs to do a reality check because he is a fucking loser. I really could never see a Judge accepting this case though, especially with this thread as the main evidence for admission.
