Re: Corsair Merits: Group 1,2, and otherwise

I can understand that point. Think of it like this though: Tier 1 merits allow us to perform an action specific to our job more times than we could normally. This is why Phantom Roll recast is a no-brainer. Figure this also: in a one hour fight, unmerited, you'll be allowed to use Quick Draw sixty times. This allows for us to do a touch of damage, but more importantly boost debuffs. Fully merited, you can now Quick Draw seventy-two times. It doesn't sound like a lot, but twelve extra quick draws can add up in damage as well as allow you to boost more than one debuff faster.

Or think of it another way: on pulls in Dynamis, where things need constant sleeping, ten seconds on a timer is pretty large. You can do more in the same period of time with a fully merited timer.

Even while pulling in a merit party (and yes I know it's rather undesirable but COR CAN pull extended chains) it becomes valuable, as you can stage mobs faster.

I don't really have inventory problems on COR. I have a set of gear I use for damage subs, and a set of gear I use for mage sub, but I don't carry them on me at the same time, which allows me to swap in AGI for QD much more easily.

I thought I saw somewhere that 1 acc merit = 2 AGI swapped in but I'm not positive...

you mentioned QD both as a source of damage on HNM and Sleeps.
both are affected by accuray, so I'd say I prefer one less QD shot and one more QD hitting for full damage/effect.

we both agree QD is a powerful too for a corsair, so the only option is if you either prefer more chances or better %

Or both. QD acc and recast. The other tier 1 merits are kinda... meh.

I think I'm the only cor that likes pulling. The highest chain I've pulled was around 221 at bird camp and it wasn't too difficult to do (fighting for pops happen and you know the rest). I'd hazard to say that cor is the better puller there if things are managed and everyone knows what they're doing, since I have never seen light shot resisted/refle. I'd rather have a brd do it because I like to hit things, but if I see the bird camp open (and I have a mule there for that express purpose) and there are no brds around, I want merits and I'm not going to rely on a brd being around to get them. Grab 4 melee and a rdm and you're set. Don't even need to use quick draw all that much if you time everything correctly.

I've been in some bad parties where I've had to pull, of course. They ain't all dandies.

The more that I merit with 1 point in Loaded Deck the more I feel I wanna toss 5 points in Random Deal recast. Being able to be more aggressive with rolls is awesome. I've doubled up on VIII and IXs and hit XI a ton since I stopped worrying about busting. I think I might hold off on doing Group 1 points until I play around for another week or so since I can't decide between any of the Group 1s at the moment. :/

Re: Corsair Merits: Group 1,2, and otherwise

I did 5x PR recast because that's our main function: getting buffs up as fast as possible. To me, it's like a PLD being allowed to merit voke timer. Think of this also: if you have 5x PR recast, you can give all three parties in an alliance 2x buffs and have them all be up when you're done. You can't do that w/o merits. Buffs also get dispelled etc and it's just better to be able to put them back up right away.

I still can't wrap my head around meriting Random Deal. Even with a fully merited timer it's just not worth it in my opinion, given that you can merit QD timer (which is like a bard meriting Lullabye and Finale recast). It's the other half of the abilities that make our job what it is, and makes us a much more effective support and DD. Being able to boost a debuff, sleep or dispel a mob, or just throw out a bit of damage is great. I go through at least half a stack of dark cards every JoL fight simply because my dispel is faster than anyone elses, for one.

I think Snake Eye at 10 minutes is a must. It's just too good to NOT fully merit. One into Fold so you can ditch a Bust in case you can't zone and it's not prudent to log out. One into Loaded Deck so you can get one or the other back. One into Winning Streak because, well, there's nothing left.

This is pretty much how I play COR too. If there's a BRD, I let them pull and bust out /RNG for some Slug Shot goodness. If no BRD, which there often isn't in pickup parties (yeah I know, shoot me - the only times I'm able to get online to merit are often when LS-mates aren't available), I usually sub /NIN, toss on my Peacemaker, and pull. I still think BRD is ideal for pulling due to being able to AOE sleep and do it more often than once every 50 seconds, but COR can definitely get the job done and get high chains assuming the melees in the party aren't gimped. I believe guns have longer range than BRD songs do too, and at the Colibri camp when competing against a BRD I've been able to pull unclaimed birds from the upper level that he wasn't able to reach when there were no spawns on our level.

My next 3 merit points are going into level 1 Loaded Deck; I've been hearing too many good things about it from other COR's to ignore it completely. I don't think that will be enough to convince me to put Tier 1 merits into lowering its recast timer, though - our other options (Quick Draw accuracy, QD recast, and PR recast) are just too good to pass up.

Re: Corsair Merits: Group 1,2, and otherwise

Meriting Random Deal's timer down would only decrease it to 16:40 (:40 per merit). If it could be merited down to 15:00, I might consider it more myself, but 16:40? Eh.

Least I think it's :40 per merit. I checked recently, but can't quite remember.

So far I've put 1 Merit into Snake Eye & Fold. Planning on doing Loaded Deck next then after that should I go 5/5 QD Acc/Timer or is there anything else that would be worth getting?
