How recently? I took it about three years ago, and it was a test so easy that the only legit excuse for failing would have been if you slept through the test and handed it in blank.Originally Posted by Remy0

yeah, I'm in college now too.
High school is a waste of time, just take the GED then go straight to college where you actually learn something. In my state, the GED is equal to that of a high school diploma, I heard it wasn't as good though in other states.
Yeah, screw school, you don't learn things in it. Be like Vannis and don't do stupid things.High school is a waste of time, just take the GED then go straight to college where you actually learn something. In my state...

It was pretty neat.
I'm currently in the process of studying for it. So far easy as hell.
Are there seriously that many high school dropouts on this forum? O.o And no, it's not equal to a high school diploma, lol. It's equal to a high school diploma for people who failed everything but still managed to graduate. It's not equal to a high school diploma for people who do anything other than sit around with their thumbs up their asses.
I have never in my life applied to a job where they asked or cared about where I went to high school, and I bet if I ever did I could lie and no one would actually go to check to see if I graduated from high school cause no one gives a fuck in the real world
(For the record I did graduate from high school, but I wished I had dropped out at 16 and did the GED->college thing and had an associates at 18 instead of just a high school diploma.)
Every job application I've seen asks "Do you have a high school diploma or equivalent? [] Yes [] No"
GED is considered equivalent.
That said, I graduated high school 27th in my class of ~285.
I constantly got notes sent home, called to guidance because I did maybe 20% of ALL homework ever assigned, except for major reports/projects/papers.
Turns out, if I had done all my "regular" homework (usually 10-15% of our grade), I would have been ranked 2nd-4th in my class. Eh, I didn't want to rank too high anyway, or else I'd have had to make a speech.
That might speed things up, but I honestly miss high school.(For the record I did graduate from high school, but I wished I had dropped out at 16 and did the GED->college thing and had an associates at 18 instead of just a high school diploma.)
Eh, When all the kids you hung out went to the same University, I don't think I really miss it all too much.
are you all reallly that anxious to get into a routine of working 40-70 hours a week and dealing with getting dozens of bills, insurance, rent and all that?
Stay in high school, do 4 years of college and live it up. High school sucked but that time period should be the best of your life unless you're some emo i have no friends dumbass and sit around depressed all day. Go party, play games, go to the beach, get laid do the stuff you can't do when you're done with school.
i just finished college, and i miss it. high school is so easy anyway, i slept through it and I graduated with a 3.0 and my senior year i had about 2 hours of class a day then i went home.
Yea, I'm a soph @ OSU, I'm looking forward to graduating but I know I'm going to miss the fun that I have staying out till ya know, 3-4 am, drinking whenever I feel like it. The real world is gonna bitch slap me soon enough @.@
Which is why people like Bill Gates and Bill Cosby have their GED.Originally Posted by divisortheory

Some students become bored with the slow pace of high school and it doesn't keep them interested so they opt out. Some kids have bad parenting at home and fall into the wrong crowd. A high school diploma is no mark of success or genius.
A GED is the basic education competency test, no more no less. You always have the option to go to community college to challenge yourself education and prep yourself for a 4-year.
It's exactly equal to a high school diploma as the high school standards for what a student should know before leaving school. The only thing a high school graduate has over a GED graduate is Art and Spanish. GRATS YOU LEARNED HOW TO MAKE A CLAY BOWL AND CAN SAY EN FUEGO.
I dropped out and got me GED and when I joined the Navy they put through the 3rd hardest technical school in the entire military, FC Aegis SPY1A ( which ranks under Nuke ET and Pilot school ). Which is 2 years of schooling on digital / analog circuits, radio, radar, synchro / servo, gunfire and missile ballistics etc etc. Tons of trig and calc, applied physics etc etc.
Which also put me about halfway through an electronic engineer degree. All I need are the basic courses, some electives, and advanced lab courses.
All that at 18 with a GED. So don't spout ignorant nonsense judging people with a GED.
I agree with most of your post, minus this point. I agree that highschool is part academics, part social life. However I feel your being unfair to those who actually worked very hard in highschool. I went to a private highschool, about 800-900 people (200~Class).Originally Posted by MF Perm
I worked my ass off in those 4 years. I took 4 years of a language, finishing in AP Italian IV. Senior year along with AP Italian IV, I took AP Calculus BC, AP Calc Based Physics, AP English Literature & Comp. , AP Psychology.
I worked my ass off to earn credits towards college classes, because I'm going into Software Engineering as a Computer Science & Engineering Major. I feel highschool is more a 'You Get Out What You Put In' kind of thing. Sure, I knew many people who glided through highschool, and slacked off with classes ou wouldn't see grade school kids in.
I also saw kids who had to take classes because they had a hard time in certain subjects, who also busted ass to get ahead and make sure they graduated. In the end I finished 8th, with a 4.15 GPA Overall (AP Classes Carried Weight).
As far as a mark of 'genius' ? I don't think my Highschool Diploma is a mark of genius by far, but I do think it is a mark of success, because I worked very hard to attain what I did, and I earned it. I don't feel a blanket statement over everyone in highschool was needed.
edit: fixed wall -o-text for read-o-bility
I have to agree. Employers only care about what you've done after high school, unless you're applying to do some rinky-dink job like flipping burgers or running a cash register. College level education and experience are what really matter. Do what you have to do to get your diploma or equivalent, go to college and never look back.Originally Posted by MF Perm

And I forgot to say it but It's good to see you've pushed yourself too with your GED. I have many friends who are currently going through the same thing too. They got their GED's after feeling highschool moved too slow. GED or HS Diploma, whatever you do get in life, it's all in how you use it. Nothing is guarenteed, success has to be sought for. Believe me, i've seen many a person in my class who will have their diploma mean absolutely nothing aside from a dusty piece of mantle trash. I also have a friend who's going into the Marines who has pushed himself to be the best. It's all in your drive, how good do you want to be, all up to the person, Push it to the limit.
