Re: Specnaz (russian special forces) fighting technique

Watched the video, I don't get it, what's so "unreal" about that? I learned most of that kind of stuff when I was training in hap ki do a few years ago. Most of the video is just basic self-defense from what I can tell. And yeah, the "live", non-training parts of the video look grossly exaggerated for fight simulations, like people mentioned before

Wtf @ at the antlers though >_>

There's some decent work at the end. Most of it just looked like old, over emphasized military training stuff. Everyone does it, and the older it is the sillier it looks.

Great laugh at the antlers though, worth a watch for that alone.

I have heard them about taking a flamethrower to a school (another hostage situation) which killed the children as well. And the atrocities committed in the still-ongoing skirmish with Russia trying to maintain control over Chechnya.

The more I have read about them, the worse it gets. They aren't held accountable for their operations, and they have committed horrible war crimes. I won't go into some of the other (crazier) things I've read but those who are interested should definitely read up on it.

Showing a video on some of their hand-to-hand combat training from like the 80's is so ho-hum; every special forces unit learns this stuff. The Spetsnaz are different because of the way they resolve situations and the autonomy that they have, not this basic self-defense bullshit.
Although it's sad killing civilians it's a pretty good tactic. It's what Israel imploys as well. Terrorist hostages will die along with any terrorists. What does it do? Makes people think twice about doing ANYTHING there. There are no negotiations, and people know that.
i was thinking about what you wrote, and i agreed to some extent, but something kept nagging at me and kept me thinking... so i mulled over it a while, and then it hit me on the way home from work today. It was something I had read during the Lebanon-Israel skirmish last year about Israeli prisoner exchanges, and how terrorist organizations have been attempting to kidnap Israelis after the prominent success of the kidnapping of a businessman.

I agree with you, but there are exceptions that I remember reading about.

Yeah he was a "Israeli businessman and formerly a colonel in the Israel Defense Force" so I could totally see them giving into demands over someone that important. Risking his life would be a no no.
