    JoL "Sweet Spot"

Ok so I've tanked JoL a few times now. I just want to know what everyone else's experience has been with the so called "sweet spot" ie. the spot where you will not get melee attacked or drawn-in. It is said to be just on the edge of the "hood".

I've been in the sweet spot so I know it exists and it makes JoL very easy to tank. However it seems that once one tank is in the sweet spots no other tank can be. I've been in the spot and noticed that it seems whenever anyone else pulls hate they get drawn-in.

In our most recent run my fellow tank a RDM/NIN got in the sweet spot and I matched his distance and still got drawn-in. I even stood next to him (just as an experiment, I know this is a bad idea for -ga spells) pulled hate and got drawn in. I pretty much tried every distance possible and still got drawn in. In addtion, when the RDM/NIN died I pulled hate went to a distance I'd found the sweet spot in and it worked perfect.

    What has anyone else found?

I've tanked JoL once so far, a more experianced tank told me to stand between 13.5 and 14.5 on the distance plugin with windower. Both of us stayed in the same place next to each other the entire fight, neither of us got drawn in.

    Re: JoL "Sweet Spot"

I've seen JoL tanked by 2 tanks multiple times now, and they've never had a problem positioning themselves so that they only get spells cast on them and don't get drawn in. Have the one tank position it correctly and then just have your 2nd tank stand right next to him or on top of him if they have to.

Also, if you move JoL a bit out of his pop area to where the walls pinch and almost come together and hold it there, one of his summons sometimes pops on top of the wall and despawns a second later. It makes the job of whoever pulls them (usually a rdm/nin or a brd/nin in my expierence) a whole lot easier. This happened to us a couple times but it's sometimes hard to replicate.

Have the first tank pull him to the northeast where the walls pinch, then have him stand on one wall and position the hood. Have the second tank stand on the opposite wall forming the canyon. Mages behind them, melee/DDs to JoLs S/SW. This position has most of the damage -gas impact only one tank so the other can be building hate and not flipped into turtley -mgk% gear. Both tanks will still get hit by the wide range status -gas like Break/Poison/Diaga, but only squishie in range will probably be the BRD. BRD acts like a hate tool for RDM or PLD tanks;p

Since when is it even remotely difficult to find the sweet spot for JoL? I never had any sort of difficulty with this at all, nor have I ever witnessed anyone else having any difficulty with this in any way at all whatsoever. And as far as I know, you get a big range of where you can stand without being melee'd or drawn in. Anything between 9-12 will probably work fine. I typically stand about 10-11ish away, although I'm not exactly sure, because the sweet spot is so damn easy to find that I don't bother using my distance plug-in to find it.

    Easy way to find it.

    Step 1 - Spawn JoL
Step 2 - Tank pulls JoL
Step 3 - Run away for a bit to 20+ distance
    Step 4 - Stay there
Step 5 - Wherever JoL stops to cast at you is a 'sweet spot'
Step 6 - /doze for the whole fight

Wow, I think I've tanked JoL close to 15 times now and had no idea he even used drawn in. But yah, just back off slowly until he moves a tiny bit and you're at the right distance. You can put another tank at the same range anywhere else around him and they won't get drawn in ether.

    Re: JoL "Sweet Spot"

My shell's actually had no trouble tanking it. We position one tank in the sweet spot, and then another at the sweet spot 90 degrees around. Haven't seen any problems. The REAL problem is, being a blue mage in the fight, I had to figure out where its ass was. Which was only opposite the tank about 50% of the time. When it's in its sweet spot, it has a nasty habit of attacking the other tank without actually turning toward him, which led to quite a few whiffed cannonballs.

No probs for my shell either. We had three PLDs in a "triangle," all in the sweet spot, trading hate. No probs. Only one I can recall really getting meleed was our DRK when he hit a 1400+ Spiral Hell, pwning every single person there (including our BLMs and MNKs). <.<

You only get drawn in if you try to take him off his starting island

From the sounds of it it might be our positioning ... and actually thinking of it now the sweet spot has always been on the side away from the water ... closer to his ???. Thanks for the advice guys !

    Re: JoL "Sweet Spot"

Only tanked it once and did not have any trouble at all staying in the sweet spot. Got drew in once towards the end because I accidentally moved too far, but otherwise was fine. How exactly do u get it to summon Ru'Phuabo on top of the wall? That coupled with Wopa's trick might mean no summons at all, lol.
