Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead in their home

How dare you people bring up a no talent hack like Goldberg into a thread about a TRUE WRESTLING ICON.

Sure Goldberg had a 166 win streak, cause he fought the same jobbers 3 times a week. Fuck he Fought Glacier 6 times in a row.

Chris Benoit, even as a murderous freak still > Goldberg.

    How dare you indeed.

The second someone starts killing other people, any comparison of "talents" is moot. Benoit is a child-killing, wife-killing coward at this point in the record, which puts him straight on the express train to hell in my book. The only thing I'd want marking his grave is the piss stains from his wife's family and anyone else who happens to be walking by.

Because once you do that, you pretty much wiped out any praise you deserve for anything else in this world you may have done. If something had forced him into it- that's tragic, but I'm not giving kudoes to a guy who decided to be a hero after a double murder. If anything, I'd compare him to OJ Simpson, not anyone who does "pro wrestling".

I think in this case it's really hard to judge a person based on an act that they've likely ( and somewhat obviously ) committed once. There's alot to say about someones mental state that pushes them overboard.

A despicable personality is someone who does these things for profit or pleasure, which obviously wasn't the case here. He was obviously anguished and not in his right state of mind when this occurred. You don't know anything about him but the negative stuff the media is throwing in our faces and the picture they paint to make this all the more sensational.

I'm sure I'm going to get a ton of shit for defending this guy, even though I agree the acts themselves are unjustifiable and unspeakable. Hopefully someone won't try to turn it around like I'm saying that, but let's show a little reason and compassion here for everyone involved instead of taking the easy route and condemning him for losing his mind and making the wrong decision.

    I agree with this.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this previously as I did not read the whole thread, but there was a study done recently on football players brain waves/patterns(?) that have had several concussions. Basically the study said that several mild or worse concussions can cause severe changes in brain causing deprsession, anxiety and other emotional type problems.

I'm thinking that getting powerbombed or jumping from 15 feet in the air onto someone or one of the many other acts that these athletes perform could definately cause some mild to even severe consussions. Some people are also more susceptible to consussions than others making their symptoms worse.

I'm thinking that this act was mostly derived from brain damage from concussions than anything else. I have not seen pictures of Chris Benoit lately but i think he retired a little while ago(?) and usually these guys are off the roids by then or taking them much less often, so i think that probably played a smaller role than the 29(random guess) concussions he probably endured over the years did.

He was scheduled to work the weekend of the killings. He was not retired. Evidently you skipped the thread and any mention of this in the news whatsoever.

Edit, since making a post again would be retarded:

As for questioning the value of Benoit's contribution to his field in light of the slaughter of his family, they are incomparable. Van Gogh was clearly mentally unhinged, yet we do not devalue his art work -- Benoit's line of work and him murdering his family are two entirely separate issues, other than we heard about the murders because of his work.

If I save someone's life, but the next day brutally maim a child, the maiming does not the make the life-saving any less noble.. it is a separate, horrendous, intolerable act, and should be judged individually.

Perhaps a better example: as a child visiting family in Germany, my father was driving me through the backcountry in Bavaria. I made a comment about how pretty and well-made the roads were. Papa replied, "Hitler built them." Good roads don't do anything to erase the holocaust, but then really, no act can erase another, no matter what the context. Both things are true.

    Sorry for the inflammatory examples.

Im trying to fathom why people are trying to 'justify' someone killing their own family. Not only am I sure he knew exactlly what he was doing when he killed his son and wife, but im sure he's a complete physcopath to boot by putting bibles next to their bodies. By doing that he knows he did wrong. This guy was more heartless then the columbine or vtec shooters. Watching it all over the news last night, having reports of almost everyone hating this guys gutts aside from wrestling fans is almost cult-ish.

Well first off, I'm not a wrestling fan. I haven't watched wrestling since I was 18. Secondly, for all the science we have regarding the state of the human mind and how easily it can change I don't understand how you can condemn someone for a solitary act when no one can account for their state of mind.

Like was brought up two posts up, he likely suffered from several concussions, and if steroids were involved that could also effect his mental state. Have you ever seen the state of some former football players and wrestlers after their careers are over? Or some of these same athletes who suffer from career ending brain injuries?

These injuries lead to several brain and mental abnormalities that some of these guys lose motor skills, memory, mood swings... the list goes on and on and on. What you're saying to do is judge an entire persons life and existence based off of one heinous act that was very obviously committed outside of their normal frame of being.

That's called reasoning. Like I said earlier it's a lot easier to just write him off as a bad person than to really examine the situation in its entirety.

Yes, but how many other wrestlers go kill somone, or football players, and boxers would be at the top of the list. Granted alot become 'slower', but they still know whats going on.

It's a talking point really. History has shown a range of people like Mohammed Ali losing motor function but still mentally being sharp as a tack, and all across the board of domestic abuse, murder, to Chris Benoit. ( for ex-football, wrestling, and boxing athletes )

I don't know what happened, and you don't know what happened. That is my point, none of us here have the right to judge him on this one act. Saying he's an evil and terrible person is stupid imo, saying he committed a terrible and evil act is what happened. None of us here know the first thing about his intention, mental state, or personality to come on here acting like experts about it.

Some might argue that his placing bibles next to their bodies and then killing himself was his acknowledgment that he realized he: a. did a terrible thing b. felt remorse, and c. couldn't bear to live with his crimes

Or he's just a psycho. But I feel like saying he's more heartless than the Virginia Tech shooter is probably looking at it the wrong way. Cho felt like he was doing the right thing, exacting his revenge for perceived crimes by killing 20+ innocents. That is way more "heartless" in my book than what I perceive to be remorse from Benoit.

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead in their home

There is so much crazy crap going on in this thread I can't keep up with it. The WWE is concerned by sensationalistic reporting a week after they faked Vince McMhan's death. WWE denying steroid use. "Mild" cases of domestic violence. A fourth individual. People talking about win records like they actually mean anything other than who was the most popular. And finally, a visit from Goodwin's Law.

We don't know people that we don't know. Just because someone seems like a nice person, it does not mean that he or she is one. Bono is an incredibly talented musician and does a lot for Africa, poverty, and AIDS- but good works does not mean a good person, but that doesn't mean that he can't be a lousy tipper. Mother Theresa may have farted in the faces of orphans when no one was looking. Perhaps when she wasn't campaigning to stop land mines Princess Diana liked to put flaming bags of poo on the doorsteps of people's houses and rang the bell while running away laughing manically. His friends in the biz may not have even known what was going on in his house, few people who abuse their spouses like to broadcast it to the world.

All I know is that this is going to be one hell of an episode of Law & Order.

That's a double-edged sword and the same can be said of the exact opposite. Just because someone commits a terrible act doesn't mean they're a terrible person. Everyone is flawed, everyone does "good" and "bad" things. You have, I have, he has and she has.

I didn't even know who this guy was until this story broke, but you have all these people saying shit like "oh he's terrible," "I hate him," "he deserves to be in hell," etc etc. I know it's human nature to run with sensation and emotion, but these armchair judgments of a persons character are just retarded.

I don't care how much of a nice guy or good wrestler people thought he was, but if he was really injecting growth hormones/steroids in his son to try and make him bigger, I hope he burns in hell.

I don't have a source, but a friend told me that on the news they mentioned something about a bunch of broken bones in the son's body too...

You just know that both shows are just waiting for more details are out so they can finish up the episodes. They are probably 85% finished by now.

Personally, I am hoping that CI gets and and Bobby lands the case. It is going to be awesome watching "Vance O'Dude" get arrested...

Everyone does good and bad things, but I think that most people would agree that a guy killing his wife and kid goes just a tad bit beyond "flawed". I am not a wrestling fan, I do not know anything about this guy, but my gut reaction to a double homicide and suicide leans slightly over to the negative side.

For all of the people who are condemning his actions, you also have a lot of people who seem to think that he didn't do it, there is an excuse/justification for it, or it was totally out of his character. My point is that his fans did not know his true character, and his co-workers may very well not have known either. We all have public lives that we share with others and private lives that we keep from our friends and families (with good reason, I really do not want to hear about the sex lives of my family members), we all have inner demons that we keep to ourselves. Maybe he had a mental break-down, maybe he had organic brain damage that caused this, maybe he had a long-term psychological illness that he hid from everybody, maybe it was steroid-induced rage, or maybe he was an abusive jerk who was escalating up to this- we may never know for sure.
