Some of you compare this phone to your phone like comparing an Acura to a Lexus. This is a mutherfuking Mercedes. Not everyone is going to want, need, or afford this baby. As Jobs said at Macworld this year, the iPhone just needs 1% marketshare in 2008 to be considered a success. I think it will easily meet this goal at the end of next year.

Me too, I'm predicting another Apple Newton-esque, or dare I say it N-Gage, product. Not in that it was ahead of it's time, but that it's attempting to do way too much in one package.

Apple hasn't exactly had the best track record for product durability and their marketing philosophy of a 1-2 year planned obsolescence really scares me away from their products. (Says the guy who's pricing out iPod Nanos.)

Really the iPhone seems like it wants to be a Blackberry, but for hipsters who work at Starbucks and rich-kid teens. I don't see this product eclipsing the Blackberry, Treo, or other business-oriented PDAs. But hey, Apple fanatics are slavishly devoted to their product and Jobs knows how to twist their collectively tiny balls into buying their products.

Really though, after watching the "guide" video they have recently put up onto the iPhone page I can hardly resist it though. Really good design, if you are saying it isn't a good phone/ipod/pda combination you are misinformed because it is reported to do all these things fairly well (including very good battery life) if not better than most of it's counterparts. The only immediate drawback is the 4GB 8GB limitation which I will probably regret if I do buy one because within a year or two it will probably double for the same or less in price.

I just renewed my AT&T contract and got a LG CU500, so in 2 years when it comes time to renew again, I think that's when I'll look into the iPhone. I'm not a business expert, so I'm not going to come out and say "OMGLOL APPLE'S GOING TO FAIL/SUCCEED" yet.

Wow, that's absolutely rough. Some of those missing features are so absolutely basic to modern cellphones I'm amazed they didn't make them in.

I wonder how availability is going to be on the iPhone in Canada. Canadian cell carriers use pretty much the same infrastructure systems as they do in the US, but I wonder if there's even a carrier available if AT&T has a 2 year exclusive deal with Apple.

It will be available in Canada but it might be several months after the US release as they work out a deal with a Canadian provider. Of course, by then the iPhone will be off the market because it will be a huge failure.

Regarding the "confirmed" list, half the stuff on the list will be forthcoming as publishers write software and manufacturers create accessories for the iPhone. Many companies basically just started working on it since the WWDC this month. Another half of the stuff on the list are untrue (iChat, widgets, Safari anyone?) And yet another half of the stuff on list are features that the smartphone companies created but who is to say that what their solutions are the best solutions? Maybe there is a better way of doing things? Gee, imagine that. And finally, half the stuff on the list are missing by design.

I'm trying not to go point by point on the list but GPS? They are seriously dinging the iPhone for this? Smartphones do not come with this as a basic feature. If people are crying over the cost of the iPhone then do they realize the cost of adding GPS to their phone? Of course, some third party will eventually develop a GPS for the iPhone, just like it happened with the other smartphones months (years) after those phones' initial releases.

One-size-fits-all headset jack? Like the keyboard comment, this guy obviously did not see the Macworld keynote. Just because your smartphone thought of one solution to a problem doesn't mean it's the ONLY way to skin a cat. There is no law that says you need tiny plastic keys to be able to type. There is no law that says all ear pieces have to go over the head. Besides, who is to say someone won't come out with one?

Bottom line, there is sure a lot of misdirection going on right now. The other phone companies want this phone to fail so badly. Did Treo, Blackberry or Blackjack have an anti-campaign of this scale? Did people even spend two minutes on what those phones couldn't do? Hells no. The iPhone is not for everyone. It's for 1% of the market. There sure is a lot of worry about 1%.

The fact that people rag on PS3 for being 600 bucks, but cry "omg iphone r reovoltinizing cell phones" shows how idiotic some people can be, considering an iPhone doesn't do half the shit a PS3 can.

I have an iPod, I have a phone. An iPhone doesn't perform either of those devices' respective functions any better than they do, costs more than they do combined, and makes me pay out the ass every month. There's no practical reason to want one.

A lot of the iPhone's hype comes from hipsters, Apple fans, and middle/high school kids. That's not a lot of market share, especially when you consider the last group probably can't afford an iPhone. Is Apple even selling iPhones overseas? Because it's a surefire flop there.

That's completely assinine that there are no songs for your ring tone on the iPhone. I completely assumed that since the thing also doubled as an iPod that it would at least let you play one of your own songs as a ring tone.
