You can do that at home through iTunes. That is another new practice that Jobs is hoping will change the landscape of the phone industry. No more waiting at the store while they setup your phone. You can pick the plan that you want and even port over your old phone number using iTunes.

Went to the apple store today 4 hours after they went on sale, the line was gone and they still had a good 5 or 6 dozen left to sell. 3 things.

1) The phone itself is pretty fucking solid, it seriously did impress me when I got to try it out. It's everything it's cracked up to be, an amazing piece of equipment.

2) They had hired tools to cheer for pretentious fucks who would leave the store with a phone, I seriously facepalmed.

3) Since it has a youtube button I ended up loading the over 9000 video on 1 demo and rickroll on 2 others before I left >_>

The cheering and high-fives as each group was let in was hilarious. There were about 400 in line at the start here in Sacramento. They blew through them in about an hour. All store employees have hand held devices that can ring you up anywhere on the sales floor. If you have a choice between an AT&T store and an Apple Store then choose Apple. Your customer experience will be much better there.

BTW, they are offering free 1 hour workshops starting Saturday morning. I dunno if you need to register online or not but any new users might want to check it out if they have the free time. You never know what you don't know.

The Apple Stores sold about 100K units today. I don't know what the AT&T and online stores were able to do but I think we will easily clear 250K by the end of this weekend. I would not be surprised if it is over 500K. Let the revolution begin.

What I never understood is what's the difference between a regular phone plan vs a smart phone plan? Don't they use the same features? Browse the web, cellphone calls, check emails, send messages etc?

Nothing different whatsoever except for the HD size. Yes you can activate it online through iTunes, you do not need to go to a store to do it.

So... got mine yesterday after stood in line for 90 minutes (which wasn't bad compares to 3 hour wait at Zilart camps) Today went to buy a case for it and noticed they sold out.

Atm it seems it only works with the SIM card that comes with it. I tried to put my old cingular and friend's T-Mobile SIM into it, both didn't work.

Sure at this moment there are still some features waiting to be unlocked IE shooting video clips, customize ring tones etc, that seems to be easily programmed in the future. Overall I'm satisfied with this product. 9/10

Edit: egh, this thing has no touchtone, so atm it doesn't work with some automated (800) number. This is going to suck lol

Yeah theres going to be tons of after-market programs and upgrades for this, both third and first party. And yeah, putting old SIM cards won't work but if you bring that SIM card into an AT&T store they will transfer everything over for you to the iPhone SIM card.
