Anyone want some free, bandwidth aplenty hosting?

Free hosting in general sucks. My ls site finally got off shitty shitty getphpbb and onto our own servers.

i would agree about free hosting as a service (typically means ads) sucks, but not regular hosting companies that have good deals from time to time (netfirms, dreamhost, e-rice, hostpc, etc.). I can tell you right now that free hosting from jumpline won't last that long. They are far from the best hosting company but for the savvy consumer, that space and bandwidth and those features (read up on VDS) are pretty good for zero dollars. Its better than say, paying 7$/mo for godaddy which is mediocre.

Easy to get around the credit card requirement, get a virtual credit card number with a couple dollars on it and use it as verification and then use it to pick up a .info domain. well, i would ignore what i said before and just pm cheritwo since that is what this thread is for and i'm sure he is happy to admin for you.

It's well worth it, if Charitwo runs out of resources, or somebody needs a more robust package than he can offer, check somewhere like http://www.site5.com, they're offering a fairly epic deal for $5/month atm. 110GB of storage, 5TB/month of bandwidth, yada yada. It won't run a site like ffxiclopedia or a forum like BG during extreme times such as an update day, but it'll happily handle solid use.

the webhostingtalk forums are good for honest discussion of hosting services, unlike the 'top10 hosting sites' you get if you use search engines, and thats where I get my info from (aside from my personal experience) and i thought this was interesting... http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthrea ... ight=site5

Interesting read. I've personally never had anything but positive experiences with them. Their customer service is excellent and very prompt with their responses. I'm not blindly stating they're the best, just that they've treated me well. And let's face it, I wouldn't have renewed my account 2-3 years running if they sucked.

Of course some people will have had issues with them, but they're a big company with many happy customers, and the unhappy minority are always the most vocal.

i'm sure site5 is fine or good, it was just a counter example to you saying they offer an epic deal of $5/mo which to me is still too much for shared hosting. $3 a month is what i call a decent deal. Every hosting service has some problematic servers, and i'm willing to bet it is not their fault most of the time. I would bet its from the other users sharing the server which you have no control over, and an inherent problem with shared hosting.

Something good that I saw about site5's plans is that they offer rubyonrails (even on their $5 plan) which i always wanted to experiment with. If I didn't already have any hosts I would probably try them out for that reason.

not like my site uses that but I'm sure as much as its growing over time it will

Webhost grows by 16GB BW per week and 1GB space a week.

I'm only using like 25GB and about 400-600GB month transfer now

Oh, and my host lets ya make infinite users/ftp accounts so I started making that for some on the site that need it to post files for direct download on the site upwards to 500MB
