Brilliant idea if you're close to the city. Not sure where in NY you're staying, though. You can get reasonably priced tickets (read: about half-off) at the Tickets booth in Times Square the day of, but you have to get their super early. This is assuming you don't get the tickets for the show before the trip, which you may want to do. Also, the tickets from that booth are usually great seats. I once snagged front row Phantom. Only bad thing about that booth is you never really know what tickets they have on sale.

Plan an evening for them in the city so you can go out with your honey and see some stuff alone too. Reserve dinner for them on your tab, maybe a comedy show? Or a musical? Concerts...New York is awesome for sights to see. Find out what they like to do and have fun with it. That would be an awesome and thoughtful gift.

I'm going on vacation in about a month, and I will be spending it up in NY with my ex's family (it's less complicated than it sounds). Her parents treat me like their son and shit, and I need gift ideas. I brought them expensive Chocolate last time and before that Very fine wine. I need ideas for a new gift to get them, from all "not a rich man" price ranges. No booze again, I don't want to seem like a one trick pony.

They are rather classy, level headed and normal people. They obviously dont expect anything, but I'm basically living with them for a week, and I'll feel like shit if I don't bring anything.

Are there any theatres in town that show stuff like plays etc? Perhaps you can get them a few tickets.
