    On Einherjar - 'aggro tanking'

Waded briefly through the 16 page thread in events, couldn't find the answer.

Is it possible for a Pld to run in, aggro a particular type of mob without performing an action, and just sit there getting beat up while mages spam cures?

Mobs have allience hate, so what if they were outside the allience?

No, it is not possible. The moment someone gets aggro or any type of hate, everyone in the room is placed on the hate-list, as if they had previously performed an action on all the monsters.

this is the same reason that ultima can go psycho on you if you have a partial wipe from citadel and hate goes crazy. stoneskin gets you draw in and death because everyone's on the hate list and his target is just flailing rapidly. "supertanking" just won't work here. from my SUPER limited experience (read exactly 1 run.) it didn't seem like the pulls were that big. doomed toads i obviously couldn't sleep well (blm sleep pisses me off sometimes, but you can't win em all.) but the bugards slept like little babies. not 1 resist on them. easier to just keep sleeping them anyway i think.

you gut a lucky ass run if you had a handful of bugards and doom toads.

OP is likely asking for situations like 12x skeletons / 12x dark elementals / etc.

supertanking this way doesn't really work that well - although you could probably run in, invincible, and then tank ok as long as the paladin is kept alive. - the trash mobs don't have hate resets and as long as the paladin is curing himself and using self JA's he'll probably be sufficiently far ahead on the hate list to allow you to peel mobs off.

I don't recommend it with the blm skeletons or ghosts though - the ga spells are gonna hit everyone in range regardless.

Re: On Einherjar - 'aggro tanking'

One way we did it recently (which actually worked very well, but the mobs would occasional run back to the alliance) was this:

We had a Nin/whm with af+1 boots (must go around 17 or 18:00 game time though) run in get initial aggro. We peeled off a couple mobs at a time.

Whenever they would lose hate and rush the alliance, he would run back and Banishga, and the mobs would rush back to him.

This tactic was very effective, and resulted in minimal 1-2 deaths (20 or so man run). It would be troublesome against any casters, though, as they are more likely to be spread out.

Usually we just sleep the skeletons, dark elementals, doom toads, bugards, ghosts, whatever. It's a lot easier and more reliable than kiting them all around, I'd think.

Re: On Einherjar - 'aggro tanking'

As long as the PLD runs in with Sentinel or Invincible up (and doesn't get nuked immediately) and runs back to a crowd control party (bards, blue mages, etc.) who sleep the horde before the PLD gets whacked to death when Sentinel/Invincible wears off, this can work. Then it's the PLD's responsibility to try to maintain hate to keep the sleepers from going down too fast. This works well for us.

Without crowd control sleepers, the PLD will hit the dirt really fast and the horde of mobs will just start obliterating everyone else in the group.

if your brds are generally good enough to avoid resists on mobs blm can't sleep (generally that's not TOO much of a problem on normal mobs in my experience, but i can't speak for einherjar mobs, so feel free to counter my statement if you're more in the know.) a troubadour/nightingale rotation can keep them slept for an extended period of time. more than enough to mill them down, possibly excepting the dark eles depending how melee resistant they are (never seen them in the zone, so i can't speak on them.)

Bombs will resist both BRD and magic sleep. Winning really seems to come down to the luck of the draw with what mobs you get.
