She wasn't "controlling" her, she was just keeping her from awakening. Basically Beth was the brains and Alicia the brawn, sorta. Alicia is still very powerful and now it seems she's awakened, making her even more powerful.

Beth pretty much ensured that Alicia could return to being human again. Without that link, Alicia seems to be fully awakened or turning back into a human. Beth was pretty strong from what I can tell, being able to dodge Duph while maintaining soul link is pretty awesome.

If you watch the anime, episode 1-21 (or 20, I forget) only. After that, it goes down hill. I'm pretty sure this thread started off about the anime as well.

She didn't decide to help Riful (as far as we know), it's because she's lost control and is probably going Berserk that she attacked her "allies." Chances are she'll either attack Riful or let her go, either one shows how fucked Beth is.

Duph is a slow oaph, being able to dodge him is nothing special.

They were also in an enclosed area with very little room to maneuver. Though the real problem they had was being unable to hurt him until the one girl recovered enough and charged her drill arm.

Exactly. Their problem was a power issue, not a speed issue. Duph has power and most notably defense, speed being his weak spot. Remember that back then Clare was able to dodge his attacks and this was when she was pretty weak and also not when she was even fighting seriously (emotionally, rather). So Beth being at that level while maintaining the link is nothing special.

hmm, I remember Galatea chopping off his hand before Clare saved Jeane and Clare not being able to evade and getting her leg crushed. Galatea also took a bunch of hits too when her specialty was evading.
Point being, he isn't just a weakling that anyone can defeat, he's still one of the most powerful characters in the series.

Also, I wonder why everyone else was able to avoid those rods from Raphela but the one that was able to evade Duph so easily was the only one to take a hit.

Thought Galatea's strength was more yoki perception, not so much evasion. Being able to sense it coming could make dodging easier, yes, but it's not a guarantee you can depending on the scope of the attack and your environment. Kind of moot point, either way. She had trouble with that awakened being in the city even with her perception upped with her eyes gone. I don't think she was ever a fighter on the scale of some others, just a smarter combatant.

Fair enough that Duph wasn't able to hit cause he's slow, but Beth multitasking evasion and soul link has probably been underestimated. I reckon the concentration it takes to do that is incredible (think of Claire and Jeane trying to do something similar by returning each other from awakening). So dodging Duph's attacks while maintaining soul link I think is pretty incredible.

Yeah, while it doesn't take a lot to guess Duph's weaknesses, his rods still come out at an impressive speed. Some of them are so fast the opponent doesn't even see them coming. Even if Duph is slow at moving his body, he doesn't need to be fast (just strong) to shoot the rods out quickly.

Galatea's power is yoki manipulation more than sensing. Claire can probably sense yoki better (before losing her eyes) than Galatea can, but in Duph's fight she relied more on her manipulation to make Duph miss more than she could evade it. Once Riful cockblocked her power Duph started fucking her up. Also, as I remember it, the enclosed space was more of a hindrance to Duph who couldn't move around properly and got stuck, rather than Claire, Galatea and Jeane who could easily move around.
