Do people actually pay for PL services? Really, why not just play Progress Quest?
Wow, I just googled for this, it's awesome. My Bastard Lunatic Gyrognome is kicking arse in systray!Originally Posted by Septimus
But seriously, there are so many people who want everything just handed to them, buy characters, RMT gil, pay for rare/ex items, so on and so forth. Why even play the game?Originally Posted by Shuemue

1. Recognition
I want shiniez, I want my attention thats due to me for the stuff I have.
2. Closure
Some people don't realize they can't play a game they can't beat. It drives them insane. Maybe by buying all this gil and getting all the best stuff for your jobs, they think they've beaten the game and now have closure.
Sports and games have (d)evolved to the point where it's about the shinies and showing off as opposed to having fun.Originally Posted by Septimus

You can either fight the trend or you can go with the flow. I really need to get a development team together to create RMT Quest, the first game where RMT isn't just tolerated, it's mandatory! Hey, I didn't create the world where parents substitue involvement and love for money, but that doesn't mean I can't make a buck off of it!
The fact that so many people quit after getting some of the best pieces in game lead me to believe it's closure.
Once you have everything, there is nothing left to get. And you have, in effect, "beaten" the game to the best of your ability (or your wallet's, in some cases I guess).

Right now i'm I have a situation where my brother and I have been sharing the same account. I took a break for WoW, and just decided that I want to get back into FFXI. In the time that I was gone though, my bro got his BRD to 67, and i have 3 jobs at 75. He's starting to get serious into the game and wants to play more on his own. Now its either on me to be the nice older brother and give him my account, or tell him to start over.
What would you do? Start over? To hell with that idea. If I was rich, I'd buy an account and some starter gil np. Unfortunately though, I value my money.

This is some sad shit but it's not surprising either. A lot of people will always be willing to pay to take the easy way out to aquire gear and Salvage Drops shouldn't be exculded from this.

Or you could always use the first character to PL a second character for your brother... It took me a year to get WHM 75, BRD 75, and BLM 60 on my second character- but I leveled incredibly slowly because I have LS events 5 nights a week. You could knock out WHM/BLM to 37-42 (for teleports) in two weeks tops, then focus on BRD. You could probably have his bard at 67 in two months from start, with a respectable amount of missions accomplished.Originally Posted by Deejay
