Star Ocean 1 & 2 Remake/Port for PSP AND future SO4

First thing I did was learn how to create all on the bonus board.
Blue EXP is Critical kill
Green SP is Ambush (Linked battles)
Yellow FOL is Multiple Kills
Purple HP/MP is All Ability Kills

I've been putting more in to SP than EXP at the moment just trying to max out all available abilities and store up tons of free SP for new abilities like Auto Heal that I found. Maxed it as soon as I found it.

Loving it though. At around 900 battles at 25'ish hours, level 29, I just got the the character from the 3rd planet.

Few complaints though. I'm now running in to the issue where everything targets Reimi if I am playing her. If I don't control her, they go about rather randomly (normal). Linked ambushes can be annoying when they don't exactly happen. The mobs don't follow very far and some times you bump in to one and then you don't get the ambush. Wish they increased the radius at which they did link. Maybe I'm an oddity, but I don't avoid fights here so even with a max bonus board, I'd still like to get ambushes.

900 battles? Wow, I can tell you're level grinding. I'm at level 31 with 455 battles. I'm on Roak and I'm not finding it terribly difficult. I've only had 2 incapicitations so far and both were Meracle. But her defense is worse than wet toiletpaper.

I agree with the ambush stuff. Even with a max board that extra bonus for multiple ambushes is very nice.

I have that problem with Edge. I didn't put the crit book on Reimi yet (Only found one) and most of the time I control her, I'm running away or doing jump attacks to avoid damage/bonus board breaking. Thinking about it now though, can't wait to get back to the ship with Bachhaus (sp) and start synthing like a mad man.

Are the recipes level based or purely skill based? I have maxed Smithing, Alchemy, Cooking, and Tailoring with the primary four and no matter how I switched them I couldn't learn anything else.

I'm curious about this too since I'm also 10/10 and I keep running out of recipes.

I just can't wait to go back to the planets and go mining tbh so I can finally actually MAKE some of the items I've been making recipes for.

No kidding. Finding those mining points and not having anyone to mine them has driven me absolutely crazy. After spamming IC inventions, I'll probably go farm some herb and mining nodes. I don't know if I said this earlier, but the nodes will respawn after a certain time. I'm not sure if it is time in that zone or time in general though.

Seems to be zone in / out of ship and they'll respawn.

Spammed IC back on ship - almost nothing worth making. Finished an assload of quests on Planet 2 + farmed some silver /mercury though.

And Bachiel or w/e was wicked annoying just because he had such huge fucking range on all his attacks - especially during fury. I was able to unlock 95 consec. RA's with Reimi because of that fight though. Fucker never moved, lol

I watched a friend play last night, and it was probably the biggest issue I had with the game. It doesn't mean I won't enjoy it (i want to play it more than ever), but that guy is seriously lacking something. I want more hero capable of rational thinking and reacting like a normal person would.

What really bothers me is that with the stunning visual effects all throughout the fucking game - why the hell did they have to port the EXACT character designs used in SO3 on PS2 into this? Like seriously, it looks like claymation compared to the rest of the game.

Did you only play SO3? (It seems that way, since you refer to the hardest difficulty as "4D", which was exclusive to that game). The other SO games were moderately difficult on the standard difficulty if you didn't grind to the point of absurdity.

No. I've played all of them it's just been years since I played 1 & 2 so my memory of harder difficulties isn't sharp. Since SO3 is the most recent one I've played, and for many people the only other SO game they've ever played (kinda surprising actually) the piece of shit easy Galaxy level should be a fresh memory.

Levels don't carry over in New Game+, only the Collections (Monsters, Weapons, etc). Abilities too maybe? I can't remember at the moment. I'm sure someone can clarify this at the moment. Though you can get 900/1000 points on one play-through 30 and 70 more on the next two difficulties respectively.

I started off on SO2 honestly. I played that so much, only one of two RPGs that I dedicated a lot of time in to completing 99% of it at the least. The other was Legend of Dragoon.

And the 1 and 2 remakes for the PSP have me half tempted to buy a PSP, but I might just borrow a friends after I beat some xbox games and give at least 1 a shot... Or maybe find it emulated somewhere.

Edit2: Seeing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Ocean#Games makes sense as to why I never found SO1. It was SNES JP release only.

Ok I just finished the third "planet" and went to go do some IC since I maxed out everyone's crafting skills. Not going to spoil much but it starts with a PA with Welch that I'm still laughing at. She's still my favorite character D:!

Randomly, is it just me, or are Welch's legs really tan and her arms really pale?

Haha yeah, I remember seeing that avatar years ago when I first started reading BG. Can't believe it was that long ago...

Back on topic, this is my first SO game. Only playing because a few friends hyped me up on it and I had just finished Last Remnant and needed something new so figured I'd give this a try. Thus far, can't really complain other than some VA'ing stuff, but even Lymle I've gotten used to. She's a lot more bearable when she's not the focus of attention, just one line here and there I can deal with no problem.
