I'm pretty pathetic, I'm up to 70 hours already no afk time..

also: gabriel celesta is a fucking pain in the ass in this game. or maybe it was because i was only like level 110, i'm not sure.
I went in there and finished the first floor and had to run out and get some more supplies, that place is assrape. My people are getting hit for thousands and sometimes special attacks will straight one shot one of them. Is it supposed to be like this until you can synth those items with moonstones and such?

    loli cat-girl pwns.
90% of the game's story is a cop-out and is generally shit So far every character is pretty obnoxious, especially Lym and Meracle, jesus

    Luckily, the combat system owns

Without possibly spoiling too much, are there any melee-oriented characters that i'll have access to later in the game? (something along the lines of Nel/Albel from SO3), not real big on casters because I can never seem to make them work as nearly as well as physicals~although the system in SO4 seems to work a bit more fluidly for Casters rather than 1 spell that won't do jack shit when you could pull off 3 cancels for 50x the damage.

The last character you get is a heavy melee type.

Well, you can only get one moonstone in there on the first floor; the rest are from the Wandering Dungeon afterwards...or you can use Arumat's duplicate, but thats not until the last floor. To be honest I just did one level at a time, tried to get all the boxes in the level and such and then bolted out.
I was about level 80 when I started...make sure to avoid the bees and treants if you can, the treants themselves aren't bad but they usually come with bees, and those bees are absolutely ridiculous until like level 110. Once you get to about floor four it's not too too bad. I didn't really have any trouble with the bosses either. Also try to find all those boxes that were covered in holy light if you haven't already; they all have someone's ultimate skill.
But yeah, I think it's normal to have to do one floor at a time get supplies etc. The only time I didn't do that was floor 5-7, I think I got really lucky. Make sure to grab like 20 tents if you can too, they really help out.

I completely forgot about tents so I just chugged the shit out of blackberries for mp lol. Have you synthesized at all? I can do +17% atk i think or hp damage +30%. What is the difference there? Looking to upgrade Meracle's claws a bit.

I didn't synth until I fought Gabriel, and even then it was just immunity to paralysis / thunder on armor.
But synthing would help a lot for sure. I would put two +17% atks and two +30% hp damage on her weapons if you can; I haven't figured out the exact balance in between, but either way it would definately boost her attack up by a ton.
Also don't forget about Mental Stimulants from

. And once you get to floor 7 and get Arumat's duplicate you can make a couple weapons by duplicating the single moonstone that you get. I know you can get Edge's moonstone wep and someone elses that doesn't require a Philosopher's stone.

I loved Star Ocean 2 on PS1 when it first came out. Picking it up for PSP wasn't the best idea. It's decent, but not the greatest game. Star Ocean 3 completely turned me off. I had somewhat high hopes for this one, but it looks pretty average.

The worst thing from what I've seen about this game aside from the voice acting, is the sluggish combat. I don't mean the combat itself, but all the frame rate drops. That, and every time you hit an enemy the game slightly pauses. That would annoy the shit out of me. Games that look like Gears can chug along without the framerate hardly ever dropping, even during the most intense moments, but a RPG can't? Come on Tri Ace.. they're better than that.

I might pick this up on gamefly when it gets cheap.

I miss all the great old RPG's that came out in succession on the PS1. There were tons of great rpg's back then. SE's latest attempts seem pretty bland. The Last Remnant was so-so, and Infinite Undiscovery is still sitting on my shelf only 6-7 hours into it.

Decided to synth a ton of +exp stuff onto various things and went from LV70 to 150+ clearing down to the 7th floor. I'm a little bummed though, I thought Meracle's ultimate skill was supposed to be down there somewhere. I did pick up various nice goodies though, including the duplicate skill. Have to go back and collect the stars to fight the boss or whatever but I'll do that sometime tonight.

Nah, Meracle's skill is in the Astral Caves. The other peoples skills are

Lymle: Trinity Blaze - Alanaire Citadel, Balcony.
Reimi: Savage Sparrow - Purgatoriam, Bottom floor.
Arumat: Dragon Roar - Insect Warrens, B4.
Bacchus: Godslayer - Old Road to Sanctuary.
Myuria: Plasma Cyclone - Hall of Termination, to the right before the entrance to the Palace of Creation.

shamelessly copypasted from gamefaqs and stuff
they didn't have Edge's skill, but I thought it was in 7 stars for some reason, and i totally dont remember where Sarah's was lol

Sarah's was in 7 stars. That gamefaqs thing is wrong and Meracle's ability wasn't in Astral Caves, that's where a claw upgrade was. Her ability is supposedly in the inner sanctum of 7 stars according to another site.

If you go past the graveyard up the stairs there's a tree there. Examine like the front-ish area of the tree and you'll find it. It'll show examine when you can hit A to grab it.
