I can't wait for SO4.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
I can't wait for SO4.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh.
I couldn't stand Peppita. My 2nd playthrough when I went through on 4D, I used her and she was all powerful and everything, but as a character, I just couldn't stand her. Emo Albel was a lot more fun. SWORDS ARE AWESOME.
Btw, 4D is still my favorite mode in a game ever.
SO always wins for replayability and fun. Especially 4D modes, I remember trying to beat SO2's 4D as a kid. Lots of time wasted doing that.
SO3's 4D was all about Max fucking Shockwave though, or any of Maria's broken ass abilities.
I never finished SO3, sadly. I did get to the very end of the game so I understood a lot of the story. Just some problems in my personal life stopped me from playing and I never got back to finishing it...

/facepalm
Ugh, I'm sort of tempted to just play the game in fucking Japanese
Oh well, I was thinking of actually buying this game to show my support for Star Ocean, but fuck that, I'm pirating this shit
Yeah. Maria's abilities were indeed broken as fuck, especially against Freya.
Also, those comparisons stink. D: Japanese version does look a lot better for sure.
i need a xbox360
I dont mind the menus or portraits, I always thought it was a bit odd that games would be rendered in 3D but then have anime portraits that really didnt look much like the 3D versions or the characters.
Either way, it's definitely not something to throw a fit over.
Are you serious, you're pirating a game series because they toned down the anime/japanese stylings? These are absolutely minor changes and the only people who this affects greatly are...well...I can't put it nicely, but I thought it was something serious to be pissed about.
Honestly, SE probably made the changes because the American market is pretty shy of cutesy anime and this makes the whole thing more appealing to general RPG/360 users. In anycase, the renders of the characters and menu actually look better with the changes, the only thing that would bug me is the removal of the face portraits.
lol @ people making mountains out of mole hills.
Fucking stupid to get mad over that.
You're not even going to give a fuck about the character portraits or any of that shit once you're more than 30min into the game anyway.
I can get over menu change, but if they remove picture in dialogue box, it does take a lot away imo. Facial expression in those scenes always help to convey emotion.

It's nothing that would make me not buy the game, but it's a bad choice imo.
Character portraits annoyed me in SO2 because the portrait didn't even look like the character model (cough Precis cough).
Rena looks young as hell in the PSP Portrait.
All I care about is how well the battle system plays... And a little bit of the story. As long as I have those two, I can care fuck else about anything else.
The good thing about Star Ocean is that no matter how shit the story is (rarely the case), you'll keep playing through because the gameplay is amazing and addicting.
3 must have improved the game a shitload, because playing 1 & 2 for the first time on the PSP and the gameplay is not even close to "amazing" or addictive. A real time battle system is all well and good but when all you do the entire time is press X in random battles and L or R in boss fights it's even more boring than a turn based game.
Looking forward to 4 regardless, fucking rolling at the massive overeactions to the lack of animu faces in the English release. I agree with Kaylia that it's kinda silly to take out the different expressions during dialogue, but whining about the menu is just laughable, even if the moon version does look better.
I think you're a little too harsh with SO2's gameplay. I can think of many normal encounter, especially in the 2nd half, where I was struggling to survive (before my characters reach the godlike status through crafting).3 must have improved the game a shitload, because playing 1 & 2 for the first time on the PSP and the gameplay is not even close to "amazing" or addictive. so I'm about 30minutes into this movie on the PSP called Star Ocean 2.
when do I get to play the game?
